About the Finance NextGen programme:

The Finance NextGen Programme is an Airbus Defence & Space-wide development programme. This programme is designed to identify and develop talented Leaders for the Airbus Finance Community who will contribute significantly towards achieving our business goals. The Finance NextGen Programme - sponsored by Airbus Defence & Space' CFO - enables its participants to enhance financial know-how and expertise, combined with further learning in management and leadership competencies.

  • Fostering and deepening participants' financial knowledge and expertise on the Airbus world of Finance, enlarging the scope to the international financial context
  • Linking formal learning with rotating, real-business project assignments

This Program consists of two assignments in two different countries. Each assignment lasts for a period of two years. They are combined with off-the-job modules, designed to strengthen participant's management and financial competencies.

A vacancy has arisen for our NextGen programme within our Accounting area:

As an Accountant, you will be a vital part in the Finance community. You will contribute substantially to our daily business in all financial areas and to our monthly closing activities of different Airbus Defence and Space Entities in different SAP Systems. You will provide data to enable educated decision making on management level and give visibility about performance vs. targets. You will highlight and analyze discrepancies and propose actions to optimize our accounting process performance. To do so, you will collaborate with your business partners from all directorates (e.g. Program and Project Organization, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Sales and other Finance departments). Moreover, you will support key change decisions in the project (business cases, rate adaptation, major modifications etc.).

Being an Accountant requires a robust knowledge on financial processes and tools, local legal (Gaap) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as well as a feeling for numbers and solid social skills to be able to manage your stakeholders in adversity towards the best business decisions for the company. A high level of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, conflict management skills, persistence, and assertiveness are required to master this role.

Your Accountant role will be in the Financial Reporting & Controlling area of Secure Communications. It will involve a diverse & challenging array of duties, covering a wide cross-section of the UK Defence and Space businesses.

Day to day duties will include
  • Driving financial performance through analysis and reporting
  • Lead the preparation of monthly Management Accounts, gaining full experience of balance sheet, P&L and cash flow accounting with Financial Performance analysis to Senior Management ;
  • Overseeing VAT return preparation, in-depth Corporation Tax analysis & complex R&D tax claim support;
  • Annual Statutory Accounts assistance;
  • Assisting with the delivery of Annual Audits - both internal and external
  • End to end support in the project creation process through to IFRS15 revenue recognition reporting


With your work, you will contribute to the successful completion of the Airbus wide Record-to-Report process. This role also contributes to preparing the future of Finance in our company while taking part in the modernization of our Finance processes and systems.

Requirements:
  • First Class or 2.1 Degree
  • Newly Qualified ACA or ACMA


  • Excellent financial skills and the ability to persuade, influence, collaborate and convince
  • Experience of working in a matrix environment with proven record of successful stakeholder management
  • Able to anticipate, assess and mitigate risks
  • Excellent skills in relationship building, team building, collaborate across functions, empowering, motivating others and conflict management
  • Ability to work autonomously when needed, to deadlines and with a pro-active desire to improve efficiencies, processes & working practices


This position has a high visibility in Finance and in the functions it is interfacing with (Program and Function Controlling, Treasury, Planning & Reporting, etc.).
