Job Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity for a high-performing individual with the right values, behaviours and skills to help shape the health workforce in Wales for a generation. The Director of Finance, Planning and Performance will be part of an Executive Team and Board that has been charged with transformation of the workforce in the health sector, working as part of NHS Wales alongside our colleagues in Health Boards, Trusts and SHAs.

Main Duties of the Job:

The successful candidate will inherit high performing finance, planning and performance functions and teams and will provide executive leadership to the functions in order to maintain the highest standards, through innovation and improvement. They will play an instrumental role in ensuring that the resources available to the organisation are utilised to deliver its strategic aims and objectives and to provide value.  Effective financial planning, management and delivery are essential requirements, ensuring delivery of financial targets and maintaining the excellent track record with internal and external audits.

They will contribute to the strategic investment proposals and business cases needed to deliver the organisation’s plans, leading the development of strategic financial modelling to support option appraisals. At a system level they will inform policy on future funding approaches and mechanisms for education and training and ensure there is collaboration and visibility across both the DOF and DOP peer groups in relation to strategic workforce matters.

The Director of Finance, Planning and Performance will be responsible for supporting the Chief Executive in her role as Accountable Officer and for providing the Board with financial and other business advice to enable it to discharge their relevant duties and accountabilities.  They will also take a lead in ensuring the organisation is supported to deliver its sustainability commitments in relation to HEIW’s biodiversity strategy.
