Our partner, an award-winning organisation, has a spectrum of programmes aimed at addressing the needs of those living in extreme poverty, covering education, access to healthcare and wellbeing, and access to funding and the ability to earn sustainable livelihoods and income.

They are seeking a Director of Finance & Operations to lead the organisation through a period of growth and change.


  • As a member of the SMT, undertake analysis and provide strategic advisory support to the management team and board of trustees; and work with senior colleagues to underpin the global strategy with sound financial and operational analysis, and guidance.
  • Provide financial oversight and governance to the UK operations, reviewing and strengthening controls, processes and systems; and ensure that the organisation is compliant to the legal requirements in the UK (Charity Commission and Companies House), and donor requirements; and lead on risk management and mitigation.
  • Lead on the preparation and submission of the year-end financial statements and statutory accounts, and in preparation of the annual audit.
  • Lead in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts and prepare quarterly management accounts and reports, presenting these to the senior management team and board.
  • Support the global office in budgeting and financial planning.
  • Review the monthly accounts.
  • Provide oversight on the full grants management cycle – from preparing budgets for donor proposals and ensuring that there are adequate controls and processes in place to manage the grants, to grants compliance, reporting and close out.
  • Responsible for reviewing donor and supplier contracts.
  • Oversee the payroll and administration of the pension.
  • Office and facilities management.
  • Managerial and personal and career development responsibility of staff within the team.


  • Qualified accountant, senior finance professional with experience in leading the finance function of an organisation with global operations.
  • Leader with a strong technical finance background, and knowledge of charity SORP, leading statutory accounts and audit preparation, budget preparation and monitoring, financial modelling, financial analysis and demonstrable experience in the management of grants from the UK government and other institutional donors.
  • Experience of running the operations of a complex organisation – covering HR, governance and compliance, facilities management and risk.
  • Experience of working at a board level.
  • Strong influencing skills, able to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and represent the interests of the UK entity within the global organisation.
  • Leader with experience in offering strategic financial guidance and advice, and able to keep the vision for the global organisation in mind whilst meeting the requirements, plans and objectives of the UK entity.
  • Hands on, willing to review monthly accounts and lead on preparing the quarterly management accounts & reports, and undertake any other analysis as required.
  • Organised, able to handle a varied workload.

The role offers hybrid working with the individual expected to be office-based in London 2 days/week; please note as this is senior role within the organisation, there is some flexibility required and more in-person working might be required.
