In a nutshell

This role will proactively business partner with the Sainsbury's Own Brand and food commercial leadership teams, providing insightful analysis, challenge and influence to drive decisions and actions that improve the bottom line. The job holder will provide support and challenge, working cross-functionally with business Stakeholders to deliver Sainsbury's Own Brand and Future Brands performance analysis. The job holder will support in the tracking and delivery of financial benefits.

What you need to do
  • Act as key Finance Business Partner for the Sainsbury's Product and Innovation and Technical teams interpreting management reporting to provide insight, analysis and commentary to stakeholders and providing challenge to the business
  • Lead the understanding and tracking of the Sainsbury's Own Brand elements of the Food First strategy as well as the impact on wider Gross Profit performance.
  • Develop cross-functional working relationships with Sainsbury's Product and Innovation and Technical teams, the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability team, Investor Relations, Business Unit finance teams and Commercial Strategy
  • Support the business in identifying risks, anomalies and opportunities. Take the lead in prioritising these and work with the business to manage them
  • Support the business with understanding our compliance reporting and associated costs. Support our longer-term strategy to minimise our compliance expenditure and work to achieve our Net Zero targets.
  • Develop a robust budget and planning framework that sets realistic but challenging targets and deliver the key messages to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ownership of Central Costs for Sainsbury's Own Brand, ensuring best in class reporting and variance analysis and to identify and facilitate initiatives to further develop understanding of budget make-up and subsequent performance
  • Attend regular department meetings ensuring Finance has a 'voice' and a 'seat at the table' where P&L impact meets department initiatives
  • Complete ad hoc / bespoke analysis and reporting for the business area as required to drive improvements
  • Support the design of management reporting, ensuring it is fit for purpose, streamlined and aligns to that prepared for the other commercial areas
  • Work with our Finance Transformation and data team to ensure analytical resource is used effectively and business priorities and resource allocation are well understood and aligned
  • Stepping up to cover the Head of Finance where needed
  • Supporting several ad hoc projects and various teams as required during busy times such as Budget, Corporate Plan etc.
What you need to know and show
  • Professionally Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
  • Strong commercial acumen with a focus on driving excellent financial and commercial performance
  • An ability to inspire and a desire to support colleagues with their development
  • Strong Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight
  • A self-starter, and a strong team player that can work independently, spotting the areas to focus on and assisting in the decision-making process
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and a bility to present complex information in a simplified manner
  • Proven history of effective prioritisation and ability to push back when appropriate
  • Committed to driving change and comfortable with managing any associated conflicts
