Senior Accountant 

 

Location: Agile, Northallerton Headquarters and home working 

Hours: Full Time, permanent 

Scale: P09-12 £42,597 - £45,873

 

We are currently seeking two Senior Accountants to join an exciting new Finance team set-up to provide financial services to North Yorkshire Police (NYP), North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services (NYFRS) and the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC). The team operates within a fast-paced environment meaning that you will need to be flexible, able to prioritise your own work and be ready to meet tight deadlines.

 

Working closely with the Chief Accountant and the Service Finance Manager, you will contribute to high quality financial governance and compliance. Through your line management of team members, you will drive a positive and inclusive team culture providing support and mentorship whilst instilling a high-quality customer service and business partnering approach.

 

One role will work within the specialism of Financial Accounting and the other within Service Finance.

 

Senior Accountant - Financial Accounting

The Financial Accounting Team ensure consistent approaches, processes and standards for Financial Accounts and payments across the separate organisations.

 

This is a varied role which includes being the lead on the delivery of Capital and Pensions budget monitoring and reporting whilst playing a key role in the development of the medium-term financial plans.

 

You will also be the operational lead on the closure and audit of accounts and production of the statutory accounts for the North Yorkshire PFCC Group, Police Force and Fire & Rescue Service.

 

The post will play a lead role in the development of joint financial systems across NYP and NYFRS to ensure effective reporting and transaction processing in line with legislation, codes of practice and governance arrangements.

 

Senior Accountant - Service Finance

 

The Service Finance Team work closely with Budget Holders and local Management Teams providing a Business Partnering approach to achieve consistency of budgeting, reporting and review of efficiency plans across the separate organisations.

 

The Senior Accountant will play a lead role in creating active partnerships with both operational and management colleagues providing real time financial support and analysis to add value to the delivery of front-line police and fire services.

 

This is another varied role which includes supporting the production and monitoring of Medium-Term Financial Plans taking responsibility for budgeting and forecasting service provision and undertaking financial analysis and reporting as required.

 

You will also provide specialist financial advice to corporate projects and business planning providing information with interpretation, for example, cost modelling and trend analysis.

 

Requirements

Both successful candidates will be CCAB qualified, diligent and motivated, and able to represent Finance senior management as required. With well-developed communication and influencing skills, you will have real strength in your ability to provide financial advice whilst forming effective working relationships at all levels.

 

A broad base of financial management experience and technical accounting knowledge is required alongside You will also have a proven track record of delivering improvements in financial processes ensuring accuracy, consistency, reliability, and timeliness.

 

 An understanding of complex financial systems is also essential.
