Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will……

  • Lead the Financial Accounting Team being responsible for its overall management, performance and development
  • Deliver a comprehensive financial accountancy service that meets all of our statutory, regulatory and operational needs
  • Oversee proper procedure and best practice for financial accounting, capital accounting and treasury management and work closely with colleagues across Finance
  • Play a key role in the strategic development of our service and play a key role in the development of the Trust’s long term financial model, directly providing all aspects of balance sheet and cash flow forecasting models and will be responsible for providing expert advice on financing options to deliver the Trust’s overall strategy and maintain long term financial viability
  • Be recognised as the finance expert on technical accounting standards/regulatory financial requirements. He/she/they will ensure that all senior finance staff are kept abreast of changes in standards, providing detailed guidance as to the likely impact on Trust’s financial position of proposed changes and, where necessary, oversee the implementation of changes in accounting practices, ensuring the Trust’s accounts comply at all times with regulatory requirements.
  • Be a champion for continuous improvement looking to develop and implement financial solutions and delivering change

Person specification Knowledge Essential criteria

  • CCAB qualified accountant with demonstrable experience at a senior level in the NHS financial services sector or similarly complex and demanding environment.
  • Extensive experience in the preparation of the statutory annual accounts process and a range of other financial service, including capital, charity and treasury management.
  • Experience of NHSI statutory returns or similar
  • In depth experience of financial systems. Able to interrogate systems and manage data to provide managers with high quality and timely information for decision-making.

Desirable criteria

  • Substantial post qualification experience of NHS Financial Services
  • Sound knowledge of NHS FT finance regime
