Deloitte Total Rewards and Benefits (DTRB), within the Tax & Legal Service Line is a multi-disciplinary group comprising over 200 professionals - actuaries, employee benefits specialists, accountants, investment professionals and administrators, led by five partners.DTRB is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority ("FCA") and provides investment advice, actuarial services, employer covenant advisory services and outsourced pension administration services to trustees and corporate sponsors of pension schemes. We are a national practice with a large team in Belfast, together with teams in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Glasgow.
The employer covenant is the employer's legal obligation and financial ability to support its pension scheme obligations. Employer covenant advisory involves assessing the financial strength of businesses, both on an ongoing basis and in the context of corporate events and transactions. Employer covenant, together with funding and investments, forms part of the integrated risk management framework which pension trustees use to help ensure the financial security of member benefits.
Are you looking to return to the workplace after an extended career break?
For this role we can offer coaching and support designed for returners to refresh your knowledge and skills, and help your transition back into the workplace after a career break of 2 years or more. If this is relevant for you, just let your recruiter know when you make your application.
Your role
Deloitte Total Reward and Benefits is seeking a Consultant with a strong accounting analysis background to help support the growth of its employer covenant advisory business.
The role will require leveraging your accounting and business analysis experience to assess the financial strength of businesses and consider the business challenges faced due to defined benefit pension obligations.
No pensions or employer covenant experience is necessary, as the role will provide a great learning opportunity for the successful candidate to train and develop into a client advisory role.
You will be able to analyse income statements, cash flows and balance sheets to assess the current or future strength of businesses. This may include evaluating the impact of a M&A, restructuring or refinancing on a business' profitability and balance sheet strength. This will help determine the financial strength of the business and its support provided to its pension scheme (i.e. the employer covenant strength).
This is a great opportunity for a high calibre candidate to fast track their career prospects, progress into a manager role, widen their skillset and be part of Deloitte's ambitious growth plans for its pensions and covenant advisory business.
The role will involve working on some of the most complex transactions and challenging issues businesses and trustees face, and work alongside a range of Deloitte specialists in actuarial, tax, financial advisory and legal.

At Deloitte we believe the best impact is the value we add, not the hours we sit at our desk. Please speak to your recruiter about the working pattern that works best for you.
Location: Flexible with occasional travel
Work pattern: This is a permanent full-time opportunity.

Your service line: Tax Consulting
Arguably the most stimulating career environment in our industry, tax at Deloitte is a far cry from tax at other firms. Here, it's all about collaborating with colleagues at the top of their game, across disciplines, for clients who urge us to constantly push the boundaries of our creativity. You'll find a diverse mix of people, all working together to deliver best-in-class advice. And you'll discover a structured programme that will help you develop even greater expertise. From fascinating projects to a wealth of secondment opportunities, you can enjoy a broad and rich career experience.
Personal independence
Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints. This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm. The recruitment team will provide further detail as you progress through the recruitment process.
