Digital Risk & Control Manager - London

The Control Management Function

Control Management (CM) function leads the 1st line of defence for operational risk and controls. Our objective is to maintain a strong and consistent control environment across the firm whilst enabling new services to be delivered to customers. As a team working inside the business, this promotes early operational risk identification and assessment, effective design and evaluation of controls and sustainable solutions to mitigate operational risk.

Control Management focuses on four key areas:

  1. Control design and expertise, to support new product development,
  2. Risks and controls identification/assessment,
  3. Control breaks/issues and resolution,
  4. Control governance & reporting.

Role and responsibilities:

As a key member of the Controls Team, you will take the lead for supporting multiple agile delivery teams, with a particular focus on in-app journeys. You will be empowered to develop creative and innovative solutions to manage risk and improve the customer experience, ensuring that appropriate controls are embedded in the relevant business processes and customer journeys.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as a proactive, independent advisor and thought leader, identifying business risk issues and recommending solutions,
  • Work collaboratively with Product Developers to design and develop controls that mitigate operational risks,
  • Educate Product Developers on how to mitigate operational risk through better product and process design,
  • Facilitate conversations with 2LOD stakeholders to gain SME input and oversight,
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies in the teams you are supporting, and work to the same cadence as other stakeholders involved in product delivery,
  • Manage BAU control activities, including control validation, implementation support, testing, KPI definition and reporting,
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the firm including: business, technology, product management, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, and technology control functions.

Experience and qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience,
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. Solid critical thinking and analysis in technical scenarios, attention to detail and able to synthesize large amounts of data and formulate creative and innovative solutions to complex problems,
  • Able to think about a problem from first principles, taking innovative approaches to address user needs,
  • Familiarity with agile Product Management techniques to take an idea from discovery through to launch to customers and beyond,
  • Able to work effectively in agile environments, delivering value whilst dealing with high degrees of uncertainty and continuous change,
  • Communication/presentation - excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to influence business leaders in a succinct, meaningful and actionable manner,
  • Stakeholder management and networking – interpersonal skills; exceptional collaboration, openness and relationship building skills,
  • Able to work autonomously to affect change - flexible, adaptable to shifting priorities; manages competing priorities to achieve the most effective result and able to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment,
  • Process analysis / design acumen – ability to understand a process and associated risks to inform control design.
