At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.
We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That's why we're looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

What will I be doing?
  • Leading financial reporting in the Financial Reporting and Control team by ensuring the completion of CRUK's external reporting requirements, including the Annual Report and Accounts of the group and any other regulatory returns required.
  • Improving the group's financial control framework by contributing towards the drive for process efficiency; reporting on performance management; exception reporting; and monitoring progress towards internal financial control weaknesses.

Financial Reporting
  • Producing the statutory annual report and accounts for the CRUK group. This will involve coordinating with teams across finance and CRUK, liaising with relevant Board Members and Trustees, drafting explanatory papers, and attending Audit Committee.
  • Producing and filing subsidiary and dormant entity statutory accounts.
  • Producing financial data for internal and external publications whilst monitoring external sources and ensuring external financial data is accurate and robust.
  • Working closely with the FP&A team in the production of internal financial reporting ensuring consistency with statutory reporting.
  • Supporting the wider Group Planning and Reporting team to review management information and reporting to find efficiencies and improvements to ensure resources are focused on the organisation's top priorities.

Audit Liaison
  • Acting as a key point of contact for external and internal auditors. This includes audit planning, managing the year-end, and resolving audit issues.

Technical Decision Support
  • Delivering high-quality accounting support to both finance colleagues and senior management with the aim of enabling decision-makers to understand the impact of initiatives and decisions.
  • Assessing the impact of new accounting standards, leading projects to implement them, and drafting technical accounting proposals.
  • Proactively partner with the FP&A team to become the first point of call when planning significant agreements and transactions. You will build their technical knowledge to ensure they understand accounting and regulatory framework changes and their impact on the financial plan.

What skills are you looking for?
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA/ or by experience).
  • Demonstrable history of producing statutory accounts and reporting within a large organisation (ideally within a group environment).
  • Experience in year-end audits having delivered audit accounts and reports whilst managing relationships with external auditors.
  • Strong technical knowledge with an understanding of accounting standards.
  • Built strong stakeholder relationships with the ability to communicate complex financial information to internal and external stakeholders.
