Discover the role

This role represents a person of highest authority within the South Korean office, with full P&L accountability over the following departments: Accounting & Tax and HR & Payroll. The position holder will make sure that we provide stellar quality of services to client companies and, working as key management team member, will steer and shape the business direction and propose continuous improvement initiatives across the office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with auditors, feeders, and local government as appropriate.
  • Oversee improvements in department KPIs within the country, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to drive improvements where necessary.
  • Prepare a department plan and monitor progress against these plans to ensure that the department attains its objectives, whilst ensuring risks are identified and appropriately managed and that the integrity of the Company is maintained.
  • Establish an appropriate organizational structure, ensuring correct elements of oversight and control across the lines of defense, to ensure that client deliverables are met in accordance with internal policy and procedure.
  • Ensure the risk and compliance team remains independent, appropriately resourced, and has continuous access to the Board.
  • Ensure the Company develops and directs the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the company complies with relevant regulatory and other statutory regulations.
  • Hands-on manages all matters of the Accounting & Tax / HR & Payroll Department and ensures the quality of services performed to client companies.
  • Work with the management team to ensure efficient and effective cooperation across different divisions.
  • Supervise and coach Managers
  • Lead projects which require highly skilled resources, e.g., US GAAP reporting/conversion, due diligence work based on agreed procedures, etc.
  • Review deliverables to key clients
  • Monitor and control the billing, debt recovery, and credit control actions in the Department

About you

Overall, the job holder is expected to be an experienced leader with excellent commercial, people, and organizational development skills who:

Key requirements

  • Degree holder with full recognized accounting/tax qualifications (e.g. CPA, CTA, etc. - KICPA is preferred);
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in consulting or large multinationals, preferably professional service firms with a career focus on assisting foreign corporations investing in Korea;
  • Professional command of written and spoken English and Korean;
  • A seasoned commercial director or business lead with vision and experience in strategic management;
  • Proven experience within changing business environments, demonstrating the ability to achieve success via empowerment and managing accountability and responsibility at the right levels;
  • Experience in leading multi-cultural teams, demonstrating clear results and outcomes;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage all stakeholders while ensuring the appropriate presence and focus for designated geographies;
  • Has good knowledge of regulatory requirements.
