Purpose of the role:

Do you have a passion for charities and a keen interest to work with some of the leading non-profit organisations in the sector? At Crowe, our grants audit work has grown rapidly in recent years and this has created an exciting opportunity for a Grants Audit Senior Associate to join our team. You will be responsible for carrying out grant audits across a wide range of donors including USAID, EC, DfE, NORAD, SIDA, and FCDO. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and a keen interest in the sector, with a willingness to help clients meet the contractual requirements of the donor funding. You must also be able to demonstrate close attention to detail.

The grants team are part of our highly regarded Social Purpose and Non-Profit team at Crowe UK. We are the foremost providers of professional services to the non-profit sector and our ranking as the number one charity auditor by both Caritas and Charity Finance for the last eleven years is testimony to this. Our non-profits team works with a variety of prestigious clients across a diverse range of organisations within the sector, many of whom are top 100 charities or household names. There may also be opportunities for international travel as part of the grants work with some of our international charities so a willingness to travel overseas is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Grant Audit Manager in each stage of the audit process:
    • Selects samples as part of audit planning process.
    • Performs: audit tests, documentation of internal control systems, grant contract review.
    • Ensuring work is accurate and clearly documented to a high standard.
    • Following preliminary review of working papers, follows up with client to ensure working papers are complete for Manager review.
    • Assists with reporting stage (documentation of audit test results).
    • Drafts management letters and reports.
    • Leading audit teams carrying out audits and supervising more junior members of the team.
  • Provides regular and proactive updates to manager about progress of work.
  • Helps ensure firm-wide consistency in performing grant audits.
  • Assists the Grant Audit Manager with drafting proposals in order to win more work.
  • Acquires and maintains technical knowledge to the required standard (technical training provided).
  • Ensures completion of assigned areas of work within the time budget and deadlines to the standard set.

Essential skills and competencies

  • Minimum qualified ACA/ACCA.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to analyse complex data (e.g. detailed expenditure breakdowns from multiple sources).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word).
  • Communication – ability to translate complex contractual requirements into plain English.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience working with INGOs and Charities.
  • Experience carrying out audits.
  • Experience carrying out grant audits with knowledge of donor requirements.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills – will be working on multiple assignments simultaneously and will need to demonstrate an ability to prioritise tasks.

Desired skills and competencies

  • Additional language skills may be of benefit as you will be working with organisations operating in different countries.
