Mandatory Requirements/Special Conditions
  • Holder of current Registered Taxation Agent status.
  • Possession of a relevant degree qualification or agreed equivalent as determined by the Chief Executive.

Desirable
  • Current membership of the Taxation Institute of Australia or other relevant professional body.
  • Experience with Sage and/or other taxation preparation and lodgement software
  • Strong understanding of the Income Tax Assessment Act (1936), Income Tax Assessment Act (1997), A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999, Fringe Benefit Taxation Act 1986, Tax Agent Services Act 2009 and have at least five (5) years, experience, in taxation services or in public practice.

Key Responsibilities - for a full list please refer to the attached role description
  • Assist the Manager Taxation and Principal Taxation Accountants with reviewing and authorising work in accordance with Taxation Practitioner's Board guidelines and complying with pertinent legislation including the Income Tax Assessment Act.
  • As a registered tax agent, and in consultation with the Principal Taxation Accountants, contribute to the management of the professional lodgement program for all types of taxation returns, including the review and authorisation of taxation returns prior to lodgment with the Australian Taxation Office and interpretation of the Income Tax Assessment Act (1936) and Income Tax Assessment Act (1997).
  • Prepare and review financial statements on a full range of taxation matters including: Partnerships, Trusts, Companies and Self-managed super funds.
  • Prepare Business Activity statements, Instalment activity statements, Fringe benefits tax and Capital gains tax.
  • Assist the Manager Taxation and Principal Taxation Accountants to liaise and collaborate with senior management, the customer services team and the information services team to co-ordinate the effective, efficient and compliant delivery of taxation services to PT customers in support of the Customer's First Agenda.
  • Review and approve Capital Gains Taxation (CGT) realty, Capital Gains Taxation (CGT) Equity, Financial Management reviews and Date of Death Reviews Income Tax Returns and customer reserves including matters requiring escalation.
  • Providing support to a small team of taxation officers who prepare taxation returns and assist frontline staff who provide frontline services directly to PT customers.
  • Provide sound and accurate advice relative to financial and taxation accounting services to the tax agents and directors.
