Are you a self-sufficient, organised, and highly enthusiastic individual with a high level of numeracy, attention to detail and technical IT skills?  Looking for an exciting new career-enhancing opportunity?  If so, join Shelter as Finance Systems Assistant and you could soon be playing an integral role within our Finance Systems team.

About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction.  So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.  We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team
Our Finance Department works as a team of experts to safeguard resources and support decision making across Shelter. We also strive to ensure Shelter is financially sustainable in order to achieve our vision of a home for everyone.  This role sits within the Finance Systems team, whose job it is to support and improve Shelter’s financial information systems, helping to make sure that our financial processes are efficient, easy to use, and well controlled.

About this exciting opportunity
This key role will see our successful candidate fulfil a broad range of duties, including answering and resolving mailbox queries within SLAs, with team support if required and escalating tickets to 2nd and 3rd line support where necessary.  You will also be relied on to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to improve our communication and service and to process leaver and new starter data from our HR system.

We will count on you to oversee workflow task management, including resolving stuck tasks to improve user experience, manage data, including user access and budget approvers on Unit4 ERP and Unit4 FP&A, and to support regular finance systems tasks, including month and year end.  Supporting building and testing of system configuration enhancements is also a vital aspect of the role, as is project support, when required.  This is an excellent development role in systems and data with opportunities for further training in System Administration and Configuration, report writing and SQL query building.

About you
You will be able to deliver 1st line system advice and troubleshooting across the procurement, accounting, and expenses modules of Unit4 ERP – Shelter’s financial system – and be able to move efficiently between all the above and contributing to our culture as a supportive and collaborative finance team.  A natural communicator, both verbal and written, with excellent interpersonal skills, you will have proven experience of providing support to customers in a customer-facing role to agreed SLAs and problem diagnosis and resolution, plus be proficient in the use of Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook, while knowledge of SQL would be advantageous.

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
