Search Consultancy Accountancy and Finance are working in partnership with The North British Distillery who are one of Scotland's oldest and largest Scotch grain whisky producers to recruit a new Assistant Management Accountant. North British are a distillation and maturation company selling grain spirit - the base for blended whisky - and its by-products.

The Assistant Management Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager, providing hands-on involvement in all aspects of financial management including preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts, weekly returns and other required regulatory reporting. In addition provide financial support to managers to financially manage the business in both Edinburgh and Muirhall.

The Assistant Management Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager, providing hands-on involvement in all aspects of financial management including preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts, weekly returns and other required regulatory reporting. In addition provide financial support to managers to financially manage the business in both Edinburgh and Muirhall.
Main Responsibilities:
- Production of the monthly Finance Review, monthly Management Accounts and Weekly Return, within the agreed timetables, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and communicating the final agreed reports to relevant managers and budget holders. Ensuring a full understanding of material variances to assist in resolving any queries from report users. Presenting monthly results to Finance Director/Financial Manager.
- Accurate processing of monthly journals (e.g. accruals, prepayment, stock) and obtaining the required relevant
- returns from users/departments. Preparation of monthly schedules detailing balance sheet reconciliations e.g. accruals, prepayment and stock.
- Communicating and interpreting financial data to non-financial managers and budget holders, liaising closely when required to put finances and accounts in context. Responding to ad-hoc enquiries as well as carrying out feasibility studies and budget analyses where required.
- Assisting with the submission of the forecasts. Working with the business to provide ongoing support to ensure accuracy and predictability.
- Complete quarterly payroll audits and prepare summary of findings and detailed documentation.
- Prepare government returns and management and development/automation of other required financial / statistical returns and spreadsheets within designated time frames.
- To assist Management Accountant with preparation of supporting schedules for end of year accounts.
- Review of opportunities and risks at highlight these to senior team.
- To provide ad-hoc analysis as required by the Finance Director or Finance Manager.
- Provide cover for role of Management Accountant if necessary.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting and preparation of management accounts
- Strong IT skills, with demonstrable experience with Excel, MS Office, Word, Powerpoint
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to input and interpret complex data using IT systems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills at all levels
- Part / Fully Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of similar accreditation (ACA, ACCA, CIMA etc.)
- Sound understanding of financial trends, both within and out with the Company
- Experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment
- Good presentation skills, with experience of presenting financial information to senior managers
- Approachable, enthusiastic, proactive and challenging
- Ability to work with the operational teams to provide financial support to a high standard.
