Job Description:
The role:

The UK Business Analysis team consists of 11 BA's located in Colchester and York. The team is passionate about continually improving the Business Analysis capability at Hiscox UK and you can look forward to participating in and benefiting from this team ethos.

We are looking for an experienced Business Analyst. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects on our UK Change portfolio, giving you broad exposure to how the UK business operates, from the front line through to the back office functions and the technology that supports our ability to deliver superb service to our customers.

To give a flavour of some of the initiatives we have in flight, our portfolio includes a programme to mature our digital trading & self service capabilities in both the direct and broker channels, building new or updating existing insurance products & enhancing our business processes to adhere to the latest compliance and regulatory demands.

We are also embarking on an agile transformation journey, moving from a predominantly waterfall delivery methodology to more agile ways of working, alongside defining our future technology blueprint. All in all, an exciting time to join the team.

When not working from home, the role can be based in either York or Colchester.

What you'll be doing

As a Business Analyst your core purpose is to build a strong understanding of end to end user journeys & processes, their supporting technologies and to be able to accurately and efficiently elicit, challenge, and document scope, processes & requirements. All while bringing the end user/s along the change journey. More specifically;

  • produce high quality business analyst deliverables, including but not limited to, user stories, functional and non-functional specifications, 'as is' and 'to be' process models.
  • build strong, productive relationships with the business, IT & third party stakeholders.
  • along with your BA colleagues, implementing continual improvements to ensure that we are constantly evolving how we do Business Analysis.
  • ensure traceability of requirements and user stories throughout the entire change lifecycle.


Person Specification:

Our must haves

  • Proven experience of eliciting, documenting and delivering high quality business analysis deliverables.
  • Experience of translating business requirements into technical design, supported by development teams.
  • Evidence of applying "soft" influencing, persuasion and consultancy skills with leadership qualities that will influence scope & design, helping to ensure the project outcomes move the business forward towards the strategic ambition.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of working with people at all levels within and external to the business.
  • Be highly results driven, with the energy and determination to succeed in a fast paced environment where the speed of response is critical to success.


Our nice to haves

  • Knowledge / experience working with third party software houses and/or technology providers
  • Working within both Waterfall and Agile delivery frameworks.
  • Working in the insurance industry.
  • Experience working as part of a globally distributed team.
  • BCS Diploma in Business Analysis or equivalent qualification
