The Apprenticeship

We are delighted to offer this two year program, starting in September 2022 in Limerick, designed for apprentices to achieve a Higher Certificate in International Financial Services (Level 6) through National College of Ireland, whilst starting their career journey with Northern Trust Limerick.

This is an early careers opportunity so should be your first step into the financial services world. You will receive specialised training for your role and learning will be at the heart of your development. You will have a strong support system in place from your manager, your team, your workplace mentor and academic mentors and lecturers.

We are looking for apprentices who share our values i.e. focus on customer service, want to expand their knowledge and always act with integrity. You will have an interest in financial services, a willingness to learn, as well as being organised and able to prioritise your time. If you have good communication skills, like working in a team and enjoy problem solving then we would like to hear from you.

Opportunities are available in the following areas:

  • Fund Accounting: This group is responsible for valuing the assets and liabilities of a fund , from this we create the Net Asset Value of the fund , this information is then used as a price for investors to buy or sell their shares in the Fund .  A fund Accountant will gain exposure to a variety of products and work with other departments who we rely on for information. This exposure to the end product gives a Fund Accountant a very well rounded view of the industry. In fund accounting you will be working in a team environment where you will receive the support of the team in addition to the training and development support the department offers.
  • Depositary Services: The Depositary Operations team's role is to look after the interests of investors. Specifically, it makes sure that the parties to the fund, the Custodian, the Administrator and the Investment Manager are all undertaking their roles appropriately in line with  Alternative Investment Fund Management Directive (AIFMD) & UCITS V Directives
  • Pricing: We are responsible for providing validated securities pricing for the purposes of NAV calculation and fund manager reporting. The team in Limerick supports fund administration operations in Ireland, Bangalore, London, Guernsey and Luxembourg.
  • Trade & Settlements: We monitor settlement of unitised funds and ETF’s, as well as play a key role in regulatory reporting for European Central Securities Depositories and financial transaction tax.
  • Asset Services: We are responsible for setting up securities (assets such as Equities, Fixed Income, Funds etc) along with researching asset data queries on vendor terminals to ensure accurate set up for our clients and meeting daily deadlines.
  • Tax: We are responsible for supporting Custody clients to obtain beneficial withholding tax rates on their international income receipts. We are a specialist and dynamic area of the Bank with embedded processing experts, change and technology programs, risk monitoring and process reengineering and client relationship management.
