The Victorian Government has made an in-principle decision to progress a joint venture model for VicRoads Registration & Licensing (R&L) and Custom Plates (CP). The purpose of a joint venture (JV) is to modernise a number of VicRoads services to make them more user friendly for motorists and deliver value for money for Victorians. Under the model, a JV would focus on high volume customer facing functions and transactions and the Department of Transport's role would focus on regulation, policy and oversight. As part of the new JV, new functions and roles have been developed to support the new business to deliver these key services. New roles have also been developed to support the state retained functions within the Department of Transport (DoT.)
