How will I help?

You will interact directly with technology and business units and other Group Audit home teams. You will participate in independent reviews to assess frameworks and policies, identify risks, validate controls and assess compliance with regulatory guides and standards across the Westpac Group to identify areas for remediation and opportunities for enhancement.

Major accountabilities:
  • Assist in audit planning, including the selection of audit scope to support the testing of processes, risks, controls and plans.
  • Execute audit fieldwork:
    • Test the design and operating effectiveness of controls,
    • Identify and document audit issues using insights gained from executing audit fieldwork, data analytics and data visualisation, and agreeing management action plans.
    • Collaborate within own home team and with Group Audit business audit teams and subject matter experts in risk and compliance.
    • Coach and develop others in GA to uplift their data risk management and data assurance capabilities.
  • Assist in the reporting stages of the audit engagement, including preparing and discussing audit reports with management. These audit reports form the basis of the messages reported to the Westpac Group Board Audit Committee on a quarterly basis.
  • Able to collaborate closely with diverse stakeholders (senior and junior level, technical and non-technical) in a team environment. Can also work independently and prioritise allocated tasks and time accordingly.
  • Participate in home team and Group Audit initiatives and continuous improvement initiatives, such as executing Group Audit's data risk management strategy.

What do I need?
We are looking for a high-performing individual who has at least 3 years of data risk management experience, preferably in audit, risk, assurance or consulting with a strong knowledge of, and capability with:
  • data risk management, including data governance, data quality management, data privacy and data security, and industry standard approaches such as DCAM;
  • APRA and other global guidelines on data risk management, including CPG-235 and BCBS 239;
  • enterprise data management frameworks, policies, standards, governance metrics and associated implementation risks;
  • stakeholder management (communication and influencing skills), project management and collaboration/relationship building skills;
  • proven team leadership, coaching and staff
    development skills, ability to solve complex problems, and identify root causes of issues.

The following additional knowledge or experience will be highly desirable:
  • a degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Maths or an equivalent field;
  • data analysis using approaches such as SQL, Alteryx and data visualisation;
  • information systems including databases, data warehouses, big data platforms, data governance tools;
  • financial services industry experience.
