Senior Analyst Depositary Operations (Investment Compliance Monitoring)

Job description:

The role is within Depositary Operations helping to ensure that Northern Trust fulfils its oversight responsibilities under the Alternative Investment Fund Management Directive (AIFMD), and under UCITS . The primary responsibility will be in the area of ensuring that the fund is invested in accordance with the appropriate regulations based on fund type and domicile, and the fund prospectus.

Major duties

  • Ensuring data feeds received from various sources are complete and accurate.
  • Dealing with the data discrepancies at source and timely escalation of major issues to manager.
  • Ensuring fund rules are accurately recorded within the compliance engine or where manual checks are performed.
  • Dealing with all exceptions, investigating the investment breaches and resolving all the inadvertent breaches.
  • Communicating all the true investment breaches to the Country Depositary for action and continuing to monitor all investment breaches to conclusion.
  • Setting up of new funds into the compliance system.
  • Setting up investment guidelines or test rules within the system for performing the compliance check.
  • Expected to use some initiative but refer more complex problems to supervisors/experts.
  • Works effectively as a team member but also independently.
  • Knowledgeable of the core aspects of the job
  • Is starting to develop a technical knowledge of the fund regulations
  • Working towards becoming proficient in all areas of the job

Knowledge/Skills

  • Third level qualification and/or advanced in professional studies.
  • Good analytical skill.
  • Very strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal parties.
  • Ability to work independently, while escalating complex issues.
  • Ability to work within a team structure.
  • Ability to comply with detailed procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Word / Excel.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills are required.

Experience

  • Knowledge of asset types and asset management.
  • 2-3 years of experience in fund services, preferably in financial services, accounting, auditing etc.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements for Irish and UK funds (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) (Preferred).
  • A College or University degree and/or some relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Related Industry qualification (e.g. ACCA, Diploma in Mutual Funds) / or studying towards, is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Functional / Industry Knowledge is required.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills are required / preferred.
  • Technical skills / systems knowledge is preferred
