We’ll help you succeed

Our Contract & Commercial Risk team, based in our London Baker Street office, helps clients to manage third party risk and ultimately drive greater outcomes and value through their contract portfolios and programmes, both buy and sell side.

We provide a range of services across the contracting lifecycle, from contract initiation and set-up (procurement/sales), through ongoing contract and commercial management, compliance and assurance, contract risk mitigation in M&A, cost verification and reduction, renegotiation and exit.

Our focus is on clients with high value, high complexity programmes and contract portfolios, so we typically work with large listed businesses, infrastructure/capital projects and government entities. Currently, we are supporting clients across a wide range of sectors including Public Infrastructure, Pharmaceuticals, TMT, Aerospace & Defence and Healthcare.

As a Manager you will drive client engagements and deliver work that will strengthen the growth and development of the Contract & Commercial Risk practice, by supporting clients in mitigating risk and optimising value from third party relationships. You may work across the contracting lifecycle, including procurement advisory, contract and commercial management, commercial audits, cost reduction etc.

You will be responsible for helping to manage engagements end-to-end, driving quality and profitability, team development and great client experience. You will also be expected to manage junior staff, and engage in growth initiatives and business development within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of client engagements to help deliver exceptional service and identify potential opportunities to build repeat business
  • Manage and deliver client engagements end-to-end, from planning and budgeting to quality reviews and reporting
  • Develop and monitor plans in order to ensure team deliverables are achieved
  • Coach junior staff in approach, methodology and provide managerial support and guidance to the team
  • Engage with clients to clearly communicate and present observations, impact and recommendations
  • Escalate issues appropriately and suggest solutions to resolve them
  • Build personal network across BDO and the market to generate opportunities
  • Operate with a cross-firm, collaborative mind set, coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary teams in delivering the best of BDO to our clients
  • Understand end-to-end engagement risk management, ensuring the team’s adherence to risk and quality requirements as well as engagement profitability
  • Support the growth of the Commercial & Contract Risk team, undertaking business development activity, as well as helping to build technical capabilities across the practice

Requirements

Technical Knowledge and Experience

Required

  • Recent experience of working in a professional services environment, such as working on cross-territory and/or cross service-line opportunities in a client-facing role
  • Experience of utilising auditing rigour and methodology in a commercial context
  • Understanding of risk management and mitigation
  • Track record of planning and delivering exceptional client outcomes and follow-on engagements
  • Experience of managing multiple tasks and competing deadlines
  • Deep understanding of procurement, contract and commercial governance/management, cost reduction services, contract management reviews and/or commercial contract audits
  • Proficiency in MS suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Desirable

  • Professional qualification preferred – e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA
  • Contract related certification – IACCM, CILT and/or CIPS
  • Experience in NEC / construction contracts and/or commercial environment
  • Experience in negotiations and contract exit also preferred
  • Familiarity with programme management tools, methodology and software
