The role
With an income for the University approaching £400m and growing, financial reporting obligations both in the UK and the US, and an ambitious 10-year strategy, this role presents excellent potential for growth for a qualified accountant.
As part of UAL's new strategy, the University aims to double student numbers over the next 10 years. The Financial Accounting Manager will play a key role in supporting the finance department as the University strives towards its strategic goals. The role will balance evolving financial reporting and compliance duties, with ensuring the University's financial accounting processes are fit for the decade ahead of us.
This is a varied and exciting role and will entail producing timely, relevant, and reliable financial and management information, and developing and monitoring financial procedures to satisfy the mandatory reporting requirements for internal and external stakeholders, including the Office for Students, The US Department of Education, and HMRC. You will also have the opportunity to further your career protentional, taking responsibility for supporting our Responsible Investment Group which sits at the core of the University's social purpose and sustainability agenda.

Your proven excellent technical accounting knowledge of UK financial reporting standards, tax frameworks may come from any sector, including, higher education, charity, public, accountancy practice, or commercial organisation. In addition to your technical knowledge, you will be adept in working in a fast paced and changing environment, working effectively with auditors, advisors, and other internal and external stakeholders.

- Preparing the University's Consolidated financial statements and liaising with auditors
- Leading the year end, quarter end and month end programmes of work and liaising with finance staff across the University to ensure timetables and processes are followed and adjustments made.
- Providing oversight and guidance over technical accounting practices and procedures, keeping abreast of changing accounting guidance and standards and assisting with the application of these.
- Managing the University's corporation tax position (no previous experience necessary)
- Improving and developing processes and procedures and driving efficiency.
- Supporting the Responsible Investment Group and reporting on the responsible investment of the University's endowed funds
