Term: Fixed Term (9 Months)

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious Assistant Finance Manager. The Assistant Finance Manager is there to support the VIVO business with delivering profitable and sustainable growth through the provision of effective and reliable management information to numerous stakeholders, such as operational leads, budget holders, shareholders and auditors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build constructive, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide appropriate positive challenge relating to financial information at various levels within the organisation.
  • Obtain, provide, and interpret financial and non-financial information.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and resolving issues and queries.
  • Delivery of financial and project accounting tasks.
  • Production, delivery and presentation of financial analysis and financial reports for specific business areas.
  • Active participation in routine business meetings, pertaining to the business area assigned to the postholder.
  • Deliver accurate and timely monthly financial reporting (including forecasts) of large volume, large value projects and programmes.
  • Identify and report financial risks and issues associated with the individual projects and programmes.
  • Actively participate in large project progress meetings, identify, and escalate resulting finance actions.
  • Perform financial reconciliations and investigations.
  • Support preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Understand and apply a variety of financial processes and controls and promote understanding and compliance within the business.
  • Comply with all health, safety and sustainability policies and processes pertaining to the job role.
  • Consistently demonstrate VIVO values.
  • Any other duties commensurate with this position.


Knowledge & Skills:

  • Good financial management and project accounting skills.
  • Ability to deliver financial information to non-financial managers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (including business report writing, and presentation skills).
  • High degree of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to effective and consistently adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to take ownership and work autonomously, and to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to collect, analyse, and interpret financial and non-financial information.
  • Ability to build effective, professional relationships at various levels within the organisation.
  • Ability to manage operational delivery of large volume and large value projects and programmes.
  • Prior experience in a Defence/Asset Management setting preferred.
  • Strong excel user able to manipulate and present complex data concisely.
  • Experience of SAP or Maximo systems and interfaces valuable but not essential, however ability to quickly assimilate knowledge of new systems will be key.


Additional features of this role:

  • Location will be flexible, with a mixture of home working and a regular requirement for travel (approximately weekly) within the UK to support VIVO Leadership, the teams this role works within, and meet customer and business needs. The ability to flex this pattern, sometimes on short notice, is essential.
  • The JV has secured contracts in excess of £0.5bn per annum, and it is expected that this portfolio will grow, therefore the role will increase in scale and complexity as the business develops.
