Role

Northern Trust is currently recruiting a Senior Analysts to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a ‘best in class’ operation at the heart of our business. We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience in Derivative Operations although we are also keen to hear from candidates who believe they have a transferable skillset. Successful candidates will receive a mix of classroom and on the job training to become operational in the role.

Department overview

The Derivatives Investment Outsourcing Operations department provides middle and back office operational support to investment management clients, across a wide range of Exchange Traded and Over the Counter products. The team’s responsibilities include trade capture, trade affirmation / confirmation, trade settlement, margin calculation, margin settlement and all associated reconciliations.

Team responsibilities

  • Monitoring and agreement of Settlements cash flows with counterparties
  • Review of trade confirmations versus the trade capture system
  • Processing of novations and client transitions
  • Providing trade information to interested parties such as Fund Accountants, Trustees and Third Party Administrators
  • Monitoring performance of counterparties and providing feedback to clients, participating in regular service review sessions
  • Investigating and resolving queries and enquiries from internal and external clients
  • Production of client reporting
  • Performing bulk bookings and deletions for transitions in and out of NT
  • Investigating and resolving exceptions from Tri-Resolve portfolio reconciliations with Investment Managers, Counterparties and trade repositories

Individual responsibilities

  • To provide support to the Team Leader and Department Manager
  • Prep and final review of settlements and process OTC cashflows on time & accurately
  • First / final review of confirmation for OTC trades on time & accurately
  • To liaise with Clients and Market Counterparties to resolve any Conf & Sett discrepancies
  • Monitor & investigate monthly overdraft/interest claims
  • Proactively monitor team mailboxes and ensure all queries are actioned in a timely manner
  • To undertake various tactical and strategic initiatives to improve performance
  • To ensure that all team duties are completed accurately within internal, market and SLA deadlines and timeframes
  • To perform UAT testing for new products, processes and clients being on-boarded
  • To escalate to Team Leader any issues/concerns in a timely manner
  • Attend internal and external meetings with Clients and Counterparties where required
  • Ensure that procedures are followed and updated regularly
  • Ensure that controls are adhered to and evidenced daily

Knowledge/ Skills - Prerequisites

  • Strong team player, self-starter and flexible
  • Excellent communication skills both written & verbal
  • An eye for accuracy with excellent attention to detail
  • Good prioritisation and multi-tasking skills
  • Organises own workload and establishes priorities
  • Demonstrates willingness to help others inside and outside the team
  • Strong problem solving skills, project ownership abilities
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of standards and procedures required for own tasks
  • PC skills especially MS Office required. Macro / VB an advantage
  • Ability to process information accurately whilst consistently meeting external and internal deadlines
  • Ability to represent Northern Trust to the highest professional levels both internal and externally (including clients, and regulators)
  • Knowledge of OTC products preferable but not essential.
