JOB PURPOSE

Financial Accounts are responsible for developing and delivering Virgin Media's financial accounting activity, including: reporting monthly results to VMO2 Financial Control and JV shareholders; Below-OCF accounting and reporting (debt, derivatives; restructuring); group consolidation accounting; tax accounting; the preparation of statutory accounts; balance sheet governance and balance sheet and working capital analysis.

Group Reporting

The principal responsibilities of the Group Reporting team are the delivery of monthly reporting submissions, consolidating the Virgin Media and O2 results, preparation of financial information for the various VMO2 external reporting requirements, balance sheet and working capital analysis and overseeing balance sheet governance across Accounting Operations.

Key stakeholders are VMO2 Financial Control, Treasury and the Liberty Global and Telefonica group consolidation and reporting teams.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide accurate monthly and quarterly results to agreed group timescales and in line with group accounting policy
  • Coordination of internal divisionalised reporting
  • Consolidation of VM and O2 financial information and associated control activities
  • Delivery of financial information for external reporting requirements
  • Month-end balance sheet and working capital analysis and reporting
  • Balance Sheet governance, integrity and assurance
  • Coordination of external audit activities within Accounting Operations
  • Improve internal efficiencies and quality of output through process improvement and collaboration with internal and external teams

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Qualified accountant (ACA; ACCA; CIMA etc) with at least 1 to 3 year PQE. Group Reporting experience helpful.
  • Attention to detail - ability to prepare and review timetables, plans and performance metrics accurately, and identify and drive the resolution of errors or issues.
  • Exposure to complex accounting along with experience of working within large corporate structures.
  • Strong excel skills essential.
  • Financial systems skills beneficial (e.g. Oracle, Hyperion/HFM).

  • Assurance mindset - the ability to review accurately, but also to identify risks in processes and reconciliations and articulate/resolve/mitigate these as part of the monthly accounting cycle

  • Stakeholdering - to be able to understand finance and operational stakeholder's needs and requirements in order to provide excellent customer service. To understand the correct balance between challenge and support of these stakeholders in order to raise both the profile and external perception of the team
  • Collaboration - working across internal and external teams in multiple locations to deliver improvements and best practice within the team
  • Self- motivated - Well-organised, adaptable and resilient. Responds to challenging priorities with a sense of urgency and pace. Ability to work under pressure and deliver to deadlines
