A Team Lead (TL) in the Derivatives Practice under general supervision (but works independently most of the time) responsible for supervising the Derivatives Team, providing guidance and ensuring adequate training is available to the team. A TL is technically competent to act as first point of reference for day-to-day escalation, and serves as a liaison to related areas. Responsible for ensuring that clear resolution of client escalations are provided regarding derivatives-related procedures and strategic planning in servicing clients, prospects and investment managers. Responsible for ensuring that there is clear communication between internal partner areas, including C&IS, GFS, and IMLG, providing feedback on client trends/issues and implementing action plans for improved management of Derivatives-related processes. Conducts performance management and career development processes.

Major duties:

  • Single point of contact to understand operational health and support for client and team
  • Identify, lead and/or assist with the implementation of business process and/or technology enhancement effort(s) that seek to improve the quality of client service, close a service or product gap, increase productivity or reduce the cost of service delivery
  • Direct client engagement to resolve complex operational issues, act as escalation point and define new strategy
  • Define and actively practice management principles that seek to attract, develop and retain quality employees
  • Contribute to building a culture that fosters diversity and drives employee engagement
  • Identifies recurring items and themes and works to mitigate issues and implement preventative measure
  • Focuses on maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures in the function
  • Understand current Service Level Agreements (SLAs) & Service Level Delivery Agreements (SLDs)that are directly related to job function(s)
  • Maximize the team's operational efficiency by monitoring workflow distribution and managing the allocation of resources within the team
  • Ensure operational risk is inherently reduced and any potential risk situations are promptly identified and escalated
  • Ensure derivative trading activities are efficiently supported and ensure seamless day-to-day processing
  • Assist staff with technical queries and provide coaching in the research and resolution of complex issues
  • Ensure a culture of continuous improvement exists throughout the team, encouraging staff to identify ways to improve straight-through processing and implement best market practice. Participate in system enhancement projects and oversee process improvement initiatives through to implementation.
  • Operates independently; has in-depth knowledge of business unit / function
  • As subject area expert, provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level
  • Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult
  • Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities
  • Conducts performance management and career development processes, provides input for staffing and disciplinary actions and provides hands-on training to staff
  • Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work

  • A college or university degree and/or 4-6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Previous Financial Industry Operations, Asset Management and/or Investment Operations experience a plus
  • Preferred knowledge of derivatives assets
  • Previous exposure to business process and/or technology enhancement initiatives
