In a nutshell
At Sainsbury's we are in a very exciting period as we have moved to a multi-brand multi-channel business - with Argos, Habitat and Nectar360 becoming fully integrated. Nectar360 brings together our core services of Nectar programme loyalty, data & insights, digital and media services. The Financial Accountant is responsible for accounting activities (other than margin) supporting all Nectar360 channels. The job holder will ensure a timely and accurate financial close each period for their responsibility areas, working in conjunction with other Finance functions such as the Finance Business Partners and Finance Operations, and supporting the Finance Manager for Nectar360.
What you need to do
Ensure accounting records maintained in compliance with Sainsbury's policy and accounting standards for Nectar entities, business functions and cost lines
Responsible for accounting close for functional areas
Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and clearance of reconciling items completed in compliance with Sainsbury's policy
Implementation of minimum financial control procedure requirements, for example including journal sign off
Ensure compliance with agreed intercompany processes, so that all of Sainsbury's balances are accurately reconciled and agreed on a periodic basis
Ensuring overall compliance with Sainsbury's policy and accounting standards, exercising appropriate judgement where required
During interim and year end cycle, delivery of audit requirements and any additional internal reporting requirements and queries required to support the external announcements
Supporting the Finance Manager with the preparation of the year end statutory accounts
Leading meetings and working with other business functions and areas as needed, including Marketing, Finance Operations, Property Finance and Sainsbury's Argos
Provide accounting support to business projects as required
What you need to know and show
Professional Qualified Accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) or equivalent relevant experience and studying towards a professional accounting qualification
Experience of maintaining strong financial controls
Knowledge of Sainsbury's policy and procedure
Strong analytical skills
High level of energy and drive
Good written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated team player, able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with other stakeholders
Able to prioritise and meet deadlines in a constantly changing environment
Attention to detail
What decisions I can make including budget
Identify and apply correct accounting treatment for your functional areas and entities
Apply appropriate judgement in areas of complexity or ambiguity
