Global General Ledger Controllers - Director

Position description:
The Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organization's financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Infrastructure Controllers, Accounting, Regulatory and Reporting groups, and Valuation Review

Morgan Stanley seeks a full time Director level professional to join its Global General Ledger Control (GGLC) team in Mumbai.
GGLC was established in 2012 as a key component of the Firm's control framework, leveraging existing functions in the Glasgow and Mumbai offices. Now consolidated as a global team, GGLC is responsible for the design and implementation of a Firm-wide system of controls for the General Ledger.

Key responsibilities of the GGLC (Integrity) team are:
  • Supervise the Intracompany, ZBA (zero balance accounts) and ECS (error correction systems) processes within Mumbai
  • Analyze reference data to ensure parent to subsidiary accounts are eliminated and consolidated collectively
  • Reconcile- Month end breaks as it pertains to equity pick up as well as TAPS vs GL
  • Perform the Reviewer task within the 3Rs reporting system
  • Reporting - Provide core data and support for corporate, financial, management, metrics, and regulatory reporting
In addition, this individual will be responsible for maintaining key internal stakeholder relationships including Product Controllers, REM, Operations & Finance Senior Management.

The role will also require participation in the development of the GGLC function in Mumbai, involving:
  • Re-engineering and standardization of processes as required
  • Ongoing functional initiatives and projects as well as regional/global projects/initiatives like SAP Migration, policy changes etc
  • Contributing to the reporting control framework, ensuring compliance to client requirements and internal policies
  • Management and development of staff within the Mumbai team

Qualifications
  • Candidates for this role should be Commerce professionals with and interest or aptitude for financial products and display the skill sets listed below
  • Financial Services experience is an added advantage.
Skills Required
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification preferable
  • Committed and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate initiative & problem solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Strong appreciation of escalation and risk awareness
  • Analytical skills with a control focus and high regard for attention to detail
  • Demonstrate an understanding of account assertions and concepts of audit evidence
  • Critical thinking in order to challenge processes, solve for ad hoc queries and creativity to suggest alternative approaches.
