Description of business unit

This manager role is within Decision Science, which is a business unit within the Group Risk division of Bank of Ireland Group. Decision Science is the analytical centre of excellence within the Division, with responsibility for the Group's credit risk models, systems, data and reporting. The Decision Science Team plays a critical role in managing Credit Risk for BOI Group with responsibility for: developing and monitoring the Group's credit risk models, including IRB, IFRS9 and operational decision-making models; deploying and optimising credit decision engines, decision tools and data sources utilised in automated decision-making and producing credit risk and business reporting and insights.

Purpose of the Role

The role holder will join the Corporate & Commercial Credit Risk Modelling team within Decision Science, Group Risk. The team is responsible for ensuring the technical excellence and regulatory compliance of all Commercial & Corporate (aka Wholesale/Non Retail) Credit Risk Models within the bank, for use in operational decision-making, IRB regulatory capital calculation and IFRS9 impairment calculation. It achieves this through timely, complete and accurate reporting of Corporate & Commercial model performance MI, periodic developments of new models and maintenance of existing models.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and execute IFRS9 model refresh activities ensuring that all governance, Regulatory and Audit requirements are met.
  • Manage the production of Model Performance Monitoring of IRB and IFRS9 models, and develop team capability to respond to ad hoc requests.
  • Lead model validations and audits, periodic recalibration exercises, developments of new models and maintenance of existing models.
  • Deliver high quality presentation material to support modelling activities that is easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focus on data management and process improvement.
  • Support key strategic projects and regulatory requests.
  • Support development, training and workload management for members of the team.

This job is open to those based in either Republic Of Ireland with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Credit risk modelling experience in a financial institution, most likely including some or all of the following: IRB; IFRS9; loss forecasting; stress testing; economic capital modelling etc. for Commercial and Corporate portfolios (including Low Default portfolios).
  • Knowledge of European regulatory IRB guidelines and standards and IFRS 9 accounting standards.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to work effectively with wider credit, business and risk teams.
  • The ability to translate business issues into the appropriate analysis and then communicate the results of that analysis back to the business.
  • Excellent computer skills: Word/Excel/PowerPoint and experience of SAS or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
