Sustainable infrastructure will play a critical role in shaping the UK’s social and economic recovery from the pandemic, and is seen as a core enabler of the government’s ‘Build Back Better’ strategy. EY’s Infrastructure Consulting practice helps our clients solve difficult business issues via integrating a range of skills set areas from risk and internal controls optimisation, process transformation, IT, people and organisational change, supply chain and programme advisory. EY’s Enterprise Risk Consulting practice is an integral part of our Consulting Services business. The opportunity

Our Risk team, along with our wider consulting team, are focused on the following core areas across:

  • The initiation and successful delivery of transformation programmes, assisting our clients to effectively manage key risks within and around their most pressing and complex initiatives
  • Sustainable infrastructure to support the government’s green infrastructure plan and ambition to deliver net zero to the UK
  • The involvement in early stage, large scale infrastructure project development activities, as well as ongoing support, to drive more successful infrastructure project delivery

We are looking to grow our overall presence across the infrastructure sector and be involved in the design, development and delivery of significant programmes under the recently published National Infrastructure Strategy, and also the Ten Point Green Energy Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.

As a Manager in our Infrastructure Risk practice, you will have the opportunity to support our clients with complex issues, and provide governance, risk management and internal controls related recommendations and solutions. You will benefit from working closely with our national and global teams across EY and will have access to our proprietary digital solutions and technology. You will develop valuable experience in a variety of clients.

Your key responsibilities

  • Management of EY teams to develop and implement risk management framworks and internal controls and support successful delivery of Infrastructure transformation projects
  • Leading internal control reviews of ‘green’ investment cases and business cases – while supporting our wider consulting team in the development of robust and sustainable business cases using the Green Book 5 case model to generate alignment and buy-in around new initiatives
  • Developing innovative solutions from end-to-end to support clients manage risks while achieving sustainable change, including their transition to net zero / net negative
  • Delivering presentations to senior clients to provide recommendations and solutions to their problems
  • Management of client stakeholders to achieve alignment and buy-in to a solution or particular direction
  • Leading client meetings and workshops
  • Leading the delivery of programmes and projects, within both traditional and agile project environments
  • Owning and fostering trusted relationships with senior clients that contribute to enhancing EY’s brand and reputation
  • Identifying future opportunities within the client or broader Infrastructure sector
  • Providing leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to junior staff
  • Contribute to business development, using knowledge of the Infrastructure market to draft innovative proposals
  • Contribute to EY’s positioning across the UK (and global) infrastructure market, through an active social media presence, and thought leadership development

Skills and attributes for success

  • A strong understanding of, and interest in, the UK Infrastructure sector including HMG commitments such as National Infrastructure Strategy and Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and climate change challenges across industries
  • Experience providing governance, risk management and internal audit support (in financial and operational processes)
  • Experience working in industry, government or a management consultancy environment
  • Ability to analyse data and deliver insightful, practical solutions
  • Experience of managing teams, including internal staff, clients and wider stakeholders
  • Experience of delivering presentations to senior audiences
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • The confidence to build lasting relationships and influence senior colleagues and clients in leading roles
  • Proven ability to adapt and learn in an innovative environment

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Education to degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
  • There are no specific professional qualifications required, but is expected that candidates will have suitable professional qualification, e.g. Qualified Accountant / Internal Auditor / Risk practitioner – ACA, CIMA or ACCA, or IIA
  • 5+ years experience within Risk Management, Internal Controls, SOX or Internal Audit
  • The ability to write to a high standard, whilst being fluent/native in English with additional major languages desired
  • Ability to make ‘change stick’
  • Identifying, creating and sustaining value
  • A willingness to travel and work across the UK and potentially overseas

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience of working on large scale digitally enabled infrastructure programmes
  • An ability to adapt and learn in an innovative environment
