About the team

The Operations, Customer and Place-making (OCP) Division ensures Sydney Metro is equipped to deliver integrated, reliable, customer-focused and efficient services. We are also managing large scale place-making projects, designing and developing thriving precincts where community members can gather, connect, shop, work and play. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and excited for the full vision of Sydney Metro to come to life.

The opportunity

Right now, we have a newly created opportunity for an Assurance & Performance Improvement Manager to join the Sydney Metro Environment, Sustainability and Planning team, which sits within the OCP Division. This role is a full-time fixed-term position for 2 years.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop, maintain and promote the implementation of a comprehensive environment assurance framework across the organisation, including management of the Environment Management System (EMS) documentation, coordination of education and awareness initiatives to support the EMS and performance reporting and analysis to support the continuous improvement.

The role plays a key role in the development of documentation for the team. Reporting to the Associate Director Environment, you will also provide advice to the project teams to ensure compliance and implementation with required standards and frameworks.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of an organisational wide assurance framework with input from relevant stakeholders across the organisation and Transport to establish effective performance standards and benchmarks.
  • Manage and oversee the preparation and peer review of practical and effective environmental strategies, guidelines, policies and procedures to support consistent management and resolution of environmental matters.
  • Interpret trends, problem areas and opportunities from the data gathered from assurance activities and undertake in-depth analysis to identify emerging environmental issues and improvement initiatives.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and education and awareness initiatives to facilitate effective implementation of the Environment Management framework, including managing the coordination of Environment training and guided learning to support staff capability and development of environment awareness campaigns and content.
  • Facilitate and support major environmental incident reviews and monitor improvement actions.

About you

You'll have proven experience in applying knowledge of environmental legislation, policy and procedures, and can demonstrate working with key internal and external stakeholders such as regulators, industry partners and internal teams.

You will have had success in driving environmental performance improvement with client and delivery teams. You will also have experience in developing and implementing assurance processes with a collaborative manner.

With a relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management, environmental planning, engineering or related discipline, you will have strong problem solving and negotiating skills, with experience in managing a variety of stakeholders and have the ability to prioritise your work under pressure. An understanding of environmental management on construction sites is essential.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this position is Grade 9 ($138,670) - ($155,309) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading. This role is a full-time fixed-term position for 2 years.
