Northern Trust is a global trust and custody bank with significant presence in multiple regions globally. As a custody bank, the management of intraday liquidity and collateral resources is a key area of focus for Treasury. Treasury is responsible for the measurement, coordination and oversight of the Corporation’s global liquidity position, including daily metrics and analysis, as well as all financial management and regulatory reporting. This role also entails collaboration with Functions outside of Treasury to help maintain and further develop intraday liquidity and collateral management processes and reporting.
As a member of the Global Liquidity team, you will focus on enterprise intraday liquidity risk monitoring and reporting, intraday and collateral related regulatory reporting, management reporting, trend analysis and the management of collateral to support intraday liquidity needs. Effective management of intraday liquidity and collateral is important for the Corporation’s business model.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Lead the continuous improvement of Global Liquidity’s intraday liquidity monitoring and reporting by partnering with Cash Analysis, Risk Management and other Functions to leveraging intraday data and client insights
- Drive the Intraday Committee agenda and collaborate with others to prepare and present materials to the sub-Committee of Corporate ALCO
- Bring additional analytical rigor and ideas to the current threshold and limit setting processes for intraday liquidity and collateral management that will allow Treasury to identify changes and be alerted of potential risks
- Serve as the Treasury point person for the monitoring and reporting collateral usage
- Guide optimization efforts around the placement of collateral, on boarding of new clients/counterparties and reporting of collateral positions
- Lead the external communication with Borrower in Custody [BIC] and Federal Home Loan Bank regulators in matters related to identifying and placing collateral as well as annual reviews
- Participate in second line Risk Management, third line Internal Audit and Regulator reviews and exams of intraday liquidity and collateral management
- Become involved in industry efforts and organizations to expand and share knowledge in the intraday liquidity and collateral management space
- Own the daily, weekly, monthly and annual reporting processes related to intraday liquidity – ensure compliance and look to advance current processes and controls
- Participate in projects that improve upon current capabilities using advanced digitalization tools
What we are looking for in the ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, Finance, Accounting, or other analytical areas of study
- 0-4 years of prior risk management experience working in a financial institution, regulatory agency, consulting firm, or college business/financial courses with
- 0-2 years prior intraday liquidity, intraday credit, cash management operations, or resolution critical operations/strategic analysis experience dealing with intraday requirements
- Self-motivated and detail orientated with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well in a fast paced environment
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Proactive approach to accuracy and attention to detail
