Job description
VAT oversight manager for EMEA locations
The candidate in this role will be a key member of the Indirect Tax (VAT) team reporting to a senior member of the EMEA VAT team.
Job summary:
Responsible for VAT risk management and advisory activity in respect of multiple non-UK locations across the EMEA region. The successful candidate will interact with local tax and finance teams in country and the offshore service centre
- review VAT compliance procedures and processes to ensure timely and compliant filings and to identify synergies and process enhancements
- review of VAT recovery calculations for material non-UK locations
- dealing with VAT advisors in respect of location questions and compliance processes
- input into the firm’s strategic technology processes as regards local compliance processes and reporting
- partner with tax advisors and local teams to manage response to VAT audits
- partner with the business aligned specialists in the VAT team to ensure business VAT positions reflected in local jurisdiction
- advise on local VAT considerations in respect of entity restructuring
- ensure integration of new acquisitions into an ongoing VAT process
- escalate and communicate key issues and risks within locations and to tax senior management other advisory matters as business plans and capacity evolve
Depending on particular experience the candidate may also have line manager responsibility for team member’s dealing with or located in non-UK offices.
Candidate qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Accounting, legal or tax qualification or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience of dealing with UK and international VAT in respect of FS issues and European compliance.
- Experience dealing with tax authorities and advisors.
- A knowledge of VAT compliance requirements and processes.
Other skills
- European language skills very helpful but not required
- Strong communication and written skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to formulate commercially sound solutions.
- Quick learner with a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Being able to work independently, managing own workload and projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Functional knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and other applications.
