Working with the Global Finance Organization (GFO) Department, the Indirect Tax Accountant shares in the overall accountability to ensure that all Canadian indirect tax compliance requirements are met by the Company on a timely basis. This includes all filing requirements with Canada Revenue Agency and other provincial governments and addressing audit enquiries in a timely manner.

The role will be responsible along with two other analysts/accountants for monthly indirect tax (both sales taxes and withholding taxes) compliance duties for all Canadian Baker Hughes entities. As well as working with the Indirect Tax Manager and the business towards developing process improvements and controls based on identified risks and audit findings provided by external consultants, as well as support on Internal Control Compliance initiatives and control performance. The role may also have certain limited AP functions surrounding wire transfer set-up and cheque printing and processing.

As an Indirect Tax Analyst, you will be responsible for:

• Monthly completion and audit of SK & MB PST returns for payment by the 20th day of the month; completion and audit of BC PST and QST returns for payment by the last day of the month. Monthly completion and audit of GST filing by the last day of the month.
• Preparation and audit of monthly withholding tax submissions for loaned labour (Reg 105 NRWT) and leased equipment (Part XIII Tax) for payment by the 15th day of the month. Submission to the Indirect Tax Manager for review, accuracy and approval;
• Updating of the Canadian component of the Baker Hughes indirect tax tracker by the last day of the month for all indirect tax returns filed the previous month;
• Review and payment of invoices issued by Cole International for import GST within 24 hours of receipt of the invoice. Preparation of appropriate journal entries to reflect these payments;
• Ensuring that all GST/PST in SAP (and other ERPs) is correctly booked according to local statutory requirements;
• Initiate payment requests for indirect tax and submit to the Indirect Tax Manager for approval in Ariba;
• Monthly balance sheet reconciliations (Blackline) relating to the tax accounts by the deadline of the 25th day of the month;
• Preparating and posting of journal entries for PST, GST and Withholding tax;
• Arranging for intercompany invoicing to recover all tax amounts paid by BHCC and BHES on behalf of other Baker Hughes entities;
• Assisting with audit working papers and act as secondary contacts for the annual internal and any external audits.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Bachelors degree in accounting from a recognized University;
• Have proven Indirect tax experience in an SAP environment
• Motivated, self-starter with a strong desire to learn;
• Ability to work independently;
• Strong technical and analytical skills;
• Well organized and able to meet tight deadlines;
• Strong communication skills;
• Very proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word;
