What you will do

The Country Risk Manager will be responsible for embedding our risk framework in Philippines as well as the oversight of the legal entity risk, provide direction on mitigation of such risks and lead the teams responsible for risk oversight. This includes providing local oversight and leadership to the offshored risk and compliance activities. The role will be a senior management position and the successful candidate will be a member of the local executive management team.

The role will report functionally to the Chief Risk Officer India & Philippines and locally to the Country Head of the Philippines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementation of Northern Trust’s Risk management framework and day-to-day risk management operations, that includes managing, identifying, evaluating, reporting and Service Centre risks
  • Provide ongoing independent oversight and challenge, assessing and advising on Operational, Compliance and Reputational risks faced by the Service Centre entity / business units, working closely with senior management
  • Chair the local Risk Management Committees for the Philippines.
  • Oversee the local Risk Management functions in the Philippines and the outsourced Risk and Compliance functions. This includes but is not limited to employee engagement, managing talent, performance and driving the function’s DE&I agenda including sitewide engagement activities .
  • Lead/ Contribute to the strategic priorities execution for the site.
  • Responsible for local incident management response as a Chief of Staff for the Philippines LIRT.
  • Be a member of the Philippines Executive Management Committee to provide oversight of the Legal Entity Risk.
  • Provide local oversight and challenge for corporate risk programs that include resiliency, privacy and cyber security. Ensure effective implementation of interventions
  • Develop and implement risk training and communication related interventions from time to time to address evolving requirements in coordination with the Risk and Compliance training team
  • Responsible for working with Business Units to develop a strong risk culture and further develop the function's effectiveness as a second line function for the Service Centre
  • Provide second line representation for all Service Centre related client and regulatory interactions
  • Support Risk and Compliance related migrations, associated hiring and function set-up in the Service Centre
  • Provide second line representation for Northern Trust at external forums and events from time to time

Your Qualifications/Skills:

  • Extensive experience in risk and compliance, (15-20 years with vast majority in either professional services firm or relevant financial institution)
  • Professional and or appropriate 3rd level Qualification ( Accountancy/Legal/Audit /Compliance )
  • Extensive experience of Banking/Asset Servicing /Fund Administration/Capital Markets
  • Experience of operational risk including business resiliency and recovery
  • Meaningful exposure to risk and compliance and a clear appreciation of internal Control/ Governance and Oversight ability to operate on/at board level
  • Proven ability to manage in a changing business environment
  • Personal Characteristics - Strong leadership qualities and executive presence
  • Ability to drive change agenda
  • Clear /logical thinker
  • Appropriately assertive - confident to challenge
  • Smart/articulate - strong communication skills/interpersonal skills
