SUMMARY

Legal entity risk is part of the Corporate Risk organization and has been set up to work closely with entity management to oversee, assess and advise on material risks faced by the entity. The role takes responsibility for running the local risk governance forum and associated legal entity risk reporting, acts as an advisor for significant change activity and material incident management, facilitates embedding of a risk management culture and assists management in understanding its risk profile.

This position reports to the CRO for India and the Philippines and covers the NT Service Centre locations in India.

Using a pro-active consultancy style, the position works with senior Northern Trust partners across Business Units, Corporate Functions, Control Groups, Corporate Risk, Legal, Compliance and Internal Audit.

MAJOR DUTIES

Key risk oversight and advisor role for the legal entity requiring engagement with senior business management. Use knowledge of the activities of the legal entity to identify and assess risks and act as a link to other risk disciplines (e.g. Compliance and Corporate risk) and Control Groups as appropriate. Provide analysis and guidance to the Business around significant loss events / change agenda.

Governance

Take responsibility for running each of the local risk committees. This includes setting a quality agenda in consultation with the APAC SC Risk and India CEO, being a key contributor to ensure key risk issues are communicated / escalated, providing challenge in Risk Committee meetings, ensures appropriate quality and timely production of the risk committee pack, meeting minutes & action log.

Risk Culture

Facilitate embedding of a risk aware culture across the India Service Centers leveraging existing awareness and training programs and/ or ad-hoc requirements.

Risk Assessment and Reporting

Takes ownership for the LE risk metrics for India – this includes ensuring appropriate analysis of underlying information to draw out risk issues / themes, engaging with business / corporate functions for their input, confirms metrics remain appropriate to assess key entity level risks, ensures reporting is produced in accordance with established methodology, is accurate and timely.

Risk Reviews

Proactive identification and execution (based upon inherent risk) of reviews / assessments to provide enhanced understanding of the India LE risk profile along with recommended actions to address unmanaged risks.

Client Interaction

Support Business in representing Risk Framework to existing or prospective clients.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Proven experience of custodian or similar asset servicing financial institution in operations, risk management and/or control / audit roles.
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, meeting participation and facilitation) and influencing skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and attention to detail is essential.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills required to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Holds oneself accountable and sets high standards with a focus on quality.
  • Proven track record in the exercise of risk informed judgements, based on sometimes limited and/or ambiguous information, and in the facilitation of issue resolution. Ability to determine issues that require escalation, to be able to clearly articulate these and be clear about any actions / decisions required to resolve.
  • Ability to collaborate with business partners while at the same time remaining objective with an ability to make an independent assessment of the risk environment and business challenges and to work toward practical risk mitigation actions.

EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of relevant Operational Risk Management, Control and/or Financial Services Operations work experience
