The job: Senior Accountant (Fully Qualified)

We have an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and driven qualified Accountant to join our existing team based in Paisley.
This position is in the Record to Report (RtR) team of our Global Business Services (GBS) European Centre of Excellence, who provide financial controllership in the region for three of the Thermo Fisher Scientific groups - Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group, Special Diagnostics Group and Analytical Instruments Group. The team are responsible for a large number of entities reporting a total of over $10 Billion of revenue per year.

The successful candidate must be prepared to take ownership of the accounting for their entities within the Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group, delivering accurate and timely results to be reported both internally and externally.

What will you do?

• Ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of monthly close activities
• Review general ledger activity, researching and correcting account discrepancies
• Perform and review balance sheet account reconciliations, including general ledger accounts and sub ledger accounts.
• Coordinate accounting entries with other departments and accounting system modules
• Assist in maintenance of documentation of policies, procedures and controls. Ensure compliance with Corporate Accounting policies, procedures and controls (Sarbanes-Oxley Act)
• Perform variance analysis including current-to-prior month/quarter/year fluctuations
• Preparation and submission of government and other agency returns, including but not limited to Tax returns and government statistics returns
• Proactively participate in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) initiatives, including Gemba Walks, Just Do Its, Kaizen events, and daily Tier management

Who we are looking for:

• Fully Qualified Accountant
• Deep technical accounting knowledge
• Working knowledge of US GAAP (Desired but not essential)
• Excellent communication skills to interact at various levels inside and outside the organization
• Proficient in MS Excel
• Working knowledge of ERPs (E1 or SAP) Example 1
