The aim of the Shell Business Operations, Chennai is to provide the Group with operational excellence through highlighting and utilizing process improvements and functional efficiencies as well as by leveraging economies of scale. Currently, the Chennai centre provides a wide range of finance, accounting and business services to Shell operating companies across several business sectors globally.
Set up in September 2007, the Chennai centre has grown rapidly and now , in its fourth year of operations , it has crossed the 1600 staff mark. The centre is located in the RMZ Millennia Business Park, where the Shell campus is a LEED Platinum building with world class infrastructure. The business is expected to grow further over the next two years and infrastructural additions to support this have been planned.
The main focus in Chennai is on Finance Operations which supports delivery of the global Finance functional plan. There is also a 'Downstream India' - Customer Services Team that handles lubricant depot ordering within the country. The Shell Business Operations (SBO Team) manages the centre facilities and supports business partners' operations on site. There is a strong focus at SBO on safety & well being of staff and on its three core values: Compliance, Intervention & Respect.

Job Description

This position contributes to ensuring that Royal Dutch Shell maintains a fit for purpose and design effective control framework, with specific focus on the system and technical elements of controls in the Trading & Supply framework.

This global position will give the successful candidate visibility of senior stakeholders across the both Finance Operations and Finance in the business. It also provides the opportunity for visibility across end to end processes and the prospect to drive forward and influence both global process design and global controls design.

Working with the relevant Process Owners and various business stakeholders, the Design Lead is required to support any changes to the design of the control framework. Changes will be BAU related as well as supporting control design as part of significant process standardisation and migration activity related to various projects.

The key responsibilities of this role are summarized below:-

Through the application of a risk based mindset to ensure that a 100% Design Effective Control Framework is maintained, across both Financial and Business Controls.

Ensure that high quality standards are maintained in the update of global controls documentation which is key to ensuring ongoing operational effectiveness of the control framework.

Build a specialist process and business knowledge across the relevant process area, which is then used not only to support the business, but also in dealing with key stakeholders including Shell Internal Audit and External Audit.

A leadership ability to drive forward continuous improvement and partner with key stakeholders in transforming control frameworks and driving forward continuous improvement initiatives.

Manage a team within the FO Controls Design Team, covering end to end design, deploy, & technical support to the relevant control framework

Requirements

This role would suit an individual who has either previous experience within the Accountancy Profession / Internal Audit or someone who has built a broad process knowledge within Shell.

As this is a global position which will give the successful candidate significant visibility across End to End Processes, the successful candidate would have a demonstrated ability to influence both global process and controls design

The successful candidate will be a qualified Accountant, (CIMA / ACCA / ICAEW / ICAS) or have a minimum of 5 - 10 years of relevant internal experience within Shell.

In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate a strong track record of managing change, stakeholder engagement, delivering value add, and delivering continuous improvements.
