Working within Thermo Fisher Scientific's Specialty Diagnostic Group, for the Microbiology Division (MBD), this role provides a fantastic opportunity for a finance professional with manufacturing / operations experience who is looking to join a global organization that supports individuals to develop and achieve their best. The objective of this role is to support the Sr Regional Finance Controller - EMEA with a strong bias towards business partnering with the operational and quality teams.

This role will be primarily responsible for supporting Dartford and East Grinstead manufacturing sites with a view to progress towards supporting other operations in the region. The job holder would work closely with the site management teams. This would involve exposure to multiple operational and manufacturing issues within the business that would prepare the job-holder for future career development within Thermo Fisher Scientific

The role can be based at the either at Dartford or East Grinstead facilities or can be remotely based for the right person but regular travel to the sites supported, will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis and Reporting
  • Handling the overall finances of the operating sites responsible for. This will include site full P&L, Balance Sheet and all aspects of site finances
  • Support effective inventory management giving to improvements in inventory profile and inventory provisions
  • Ensure all finance controllership activities are carried out in compliance with company policies and US GAAP
  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate, reporting & analysis of the results of the site performance against historical, budgeted, and forecasted results to facilitate decision-making toward the achievement of the budget and strategic plan
  • Analysis of business and financial data to find opportunities and corrective action for adverse variances.
  • Handle and finalize routine month end and period close financial and reporting processes according to corporate guidelines
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly MBD financial reporting & bridge commentary and weekly operational reporting. Analyze monthly and quarterly performance, with focus on critical metrics and variance analysis against Plan, Prior Quarter & Prior Year
  • Be responsible for the site material cost, overhead cost analysis and cost roll process to ensure accurate standard costs
  • Handle the site CAPEX processes
  • Assist in financial audits, internal audits and tax reporting processes
  • Structure financial models for capital investment appraisals and business cases
  • Continuous Kaizen focus looking for efficiency improvements in the finance function and be the finance validator for site efficiency savings to match against P&L


Planning and Forecasting
  • Structure and model, development of Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and periodic forecast requirements.
  • Identify business risks and mitigating opportunities to enable the delivery of financial targets
  • Coordinate the site budget, ensuring funds are efficiently deployed and headcount, reserves, and indirect costs are handled in line with budget
  • Lead processes to align operating plans down to the lowest level required driving accountability at the point of impact and ensuring there is alignment to deliver on financial and business objectives


Business Partnering
  • Integrate with operations and quality teams to drive and improve the profitability and margin of the operation
  • Manage and develop finance analysts supporting the sites
  • Ability to find and implement solutions working together with remotely based teams such as shared services
  • Business partnering with operational management by providing operations accounting, product costing, cost centre review & inventory control
  • Broader business approach to partner with non-finance team members, enabling them to understand financial impact of their business decisions
  • Ad hoc projects as required


Minimum Requirements / Qualifications:
  • CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualified
  • Clear communication skills, written and verbal, including the ability to effectively connect with non-finance colleagues
  • Deep knowledge of P&L and working capital drivers within a manufacturing / operations environment
  • Microsoft Office (heavy Excel emphasis)
  • Proven track record of delivering outstanding results working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience of working with all levels of functional team members to up to Director level.
  • Desire for career advancement within Thermo Fisher Scientific


Preferred Qualifications:
  • SAP, Hyperion, and Power BI
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
