The Role: Assistant Management Accountant - Port Business Services (PBS)

Purpose:

To process accounting transactions within ABP's Finance Shared Services (FSS) team in Port Business Services (PBS).

Scope:

Indirect accountability towards ABP turnover of £523 million revenue and £320 million EBITDA

Management accounting support for 4 regions, plus Head Office

Accountabilities:
  • Delivery of Services
    • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of revenue accounting (including verification) to agreed standards within targeted timelines
    • Produce timely, relevant and accurate management and statutory accounts to support commercial decision making in the regions
    • Ensure all documents are retained for control verification and to support internal and external audit reviews
    • The Assistant Management Accountant will work within a bigger team and will be involved in the following activities to support the delivery of accounting services for ABP as required:
    • Journal processing
    • Processing of intercompany transactions
    • Assisting with the month-end close process
    • Producing regional reports
    • Routine analysis, reporting and GL maintenance
    • Cash flow forecasting
    • Balance sheet reconciliations
    • Reconciling bank accounts
    • Preparing statutory returns and backup files


  • Management and ongoing monitoring of service delivery
    • Prepare Key Performance Indicator's for the Management Accounting Team to monitor performance and service delivery levels, in order to improve PBS and individual performance
    • Review revenue is in line with expected volumes to ensure that management accounting is accurate and in line with the business plan


  • Continuous Improvement
    • Build relationships with key points of contact across the processes and other functions within Port Business Services in order to maintain an understanding of the process context and identify both intra process and cross-process improvement opportunities
    • Proactively suggest improvement ideas to drive continuous improvement, efficiency and internal controls in processes and practices

    Essential

    Qualifications
    • GCSE Maths and English Grades A*-C (or equivalent)
    • Studying towards AAT or CIMA

    Skills
    • Good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    • Skills in planning, organising and time management
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to forge strong working relationships with a diverse set of team members
    • Strong customer service skills


    Experience
    • Experience of working in a service culture environment
    • Good understanding of basic accounting processes

    Ideal
    • Degree level qualification or equivalent
    • Part qualified accountant, or experience in a management accounting role
    • Experience of working in a shared service centre
    • SAP knowledge
    • Experience of the Ports Industry
