Sylatech is a UK based engineering company with specialist processes focussed on the manufacture of intricate precision metal parts for a range of industries. Its RF/Microwave division, custom designs and manufactures microwave systems, subsystems, assemblies and components for radar and satellite applications. Sylatech's research and development division is developing a number of ground-breaking, technology-based solutions, with wide-ranging applications. With a global customer base, Sylatech services the needs of multiple business sectors including Aerospace, Space, Defence, Medical, Automotive and Construction.

Sylatech is a currently a beneficiary of the leading aerospace transformation programme, Sharing in Growth. The scheme is providing Sylatech with an intense and comprehensive programme of training, coaching and development as it drives towards 'world class' in the operation and performance of the business.

The Finance Director will be responsible for the financial stewardship of the Company, ensuring that robust financial controls are maintained and that appropriate and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders is provided in an effective, accurate and timely manner, as and when required. The FD will also have full responsibility for IT.


Management Reporting
  • You will have overall responsibility for the accuracy and timely reporting of financial information to the Board, Senior Management Team, additional internal stakeholders and colleagues (as and when required) as well as external stakeholders (e. Banks, Investors, Accountants/Auditors, HMRC etc.).
  • Ensuring that Board Reporting information (usually the Board pack with financials and appropriate commentary) is produced and accurately reported (monthly, quarterly, half yearly and annually).
  • Ensuring that Monthly Management accounts, for use by the SMT and Departmental Heads, are produced and compared to Budget, with relevant variance comparison and commentary where required.

Financial Accounting

Having responsibility for the accurate production of Financial Accounts (at least annually for audit and Companies House Filing).
  • Ensuring that all relevant and appropriate financial information for external stakeholders (e. Bank, HMRC, Investors, Auditors) is produced in an accurate and timely manner, as and when required.
  • Ensuring that adequate Fixed Asset information is maintained and produced to ensure correct accounting and tax allowance calculations are achieved.
  • Ensure that appropriate and adequate Financial Management Controls are in place and adhered to in order to achieve accurate and timely financial reporting, especially in areas of Cash Flow Statements, Bank Reconciliations, Control Account Reconciliations, Nominal ledger, Fixed Asset Register and Journal Entry items.

Management Accounting
  • Having responsibility for reporting weekly KPIs
  • Having responsibility for the production and reporting of Monthly Management Accounts to the SMT and Departmental Heads.

  • As part of the Senior Management Team, and by having a commercial business financial focus, you will contribute to the Business's Strategic Planning Process and provide input on any relevant financial and tax and commercial related areas and issues that you feel may relate to and impact on the Strategic Business Plans.

  • The Finance Director will be fully involved with the Government's Sharing In Growth initiative which the Business is able to take full advantage of. This may involve areas of external funding and Government initiatives

IT systems
  • The Finance function of the Business currently holds responsibility for Financial IT Systems and programmes, General Business Systems and Programmes and Manufacturing Systems and Programmes. The Finance Director, therefore, currently has responsibility to ensure that such systems are fit for purpose and that the operational performance and integrity of such systems is maintained at all times, to ensure that the Business can operate at the highest levels of performance and reporting.

  • Ensure that all Financial and Business Areas, for which you have direct responsibility, comply with Statutory, Legislative and Business 'Best Practice' procedures and requirements, and that all Corporate, Business, Statutory and Legislative requirements are complied with.

Sylatech's future FD must have an ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification and significant financial experience with a proven track record in a similar business. If you would be interested in discussing this role further, please reply in response to this email.
