VAT Senior Manager

The Financial Services Indirect Tax (VAT) team works with many organisations across all financial services sectors (banking and capital markets, wealth and asset management, insurance, and aircraft leasing). We are growing very fast and in order to seize the opportunities available in the market, the team requires new talent.

You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients across all sectors of the Financial Services industry as part of a globally integrated network of specialists who come from a range of different backgrounds such as traditional tax practice, industry, legal, commercial, technology, and Revenue. The work is technically challenging, creative, and requires you to work closely with our clients’ businesses.

Your key responsibilities

  • To take a lead role in managing the VAT compliance book for a large and rapidly growing client base.
  • Provide succinct and accurate technical analysis within the scope of agreed client fees, ensuring key risks are well identified.
  • Monitoring and managing the team to ensure quality deliverables are made in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the successful growth of our team by coaching and mentoring members in the development of their VAT technical skillset.  
  • Ensure delivery of quality work and take day-to-day ownership for the delivery of all compliance services. 
  • Enthusiastic senior manager with ability to create and sustain an effective team.
  • Contribute to people initiatives, including retaining and training tax professionals
  • Take an active and senior role in developing our Business.  Proactively identify and convert opportunities by managing existing client relationships and winning new clients.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Ability to build and maintain tax relationships with clients and provide exceptional levels of client service.
  • Excellent VAT technical skills, with a particular focus on Financial Services.
  • Strong negotiation skills, able to gain buy-in and effectively manage challenges from clients and alike.
  • High-level management of the successful delivery of technically complex and demanding projects, ensuring technical excellence and a practical, business-driven approach is taken.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to convey complex analysis in a clear, succinct, and easy to understand manner.
  • Overall responsibility of quality client service
  • Build networks and relationships internally and externally for the team to leverage from
  • Contribute to successfully extracting maximum value for both EY and clients from the tax services delivered whilst managing risk appropriately for both client and the firm.
  • Strong commercial awareness ensuring our service offering is fit for purposes and within budget of agreed fees

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • 7+ years experience working in VAT
  • Trained in practice but may currently be working in either industry, a Tax Authority, or in practice
  • Ability to build strong client relationships and commercially aware.
  • Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
  • Strong practical and commercial experience having either advised clients or worked ‘in-house’
  • Strong VAT technical skills
  • Team player. Ability to integrate and build effective relationships at all levels.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience working within Financial Services
