We’ll help you succeed

You'll be an Assistant Manager in the Financial Services Advisory (Internal Audit) team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of engagements, gaining experience in planning and delivering internal audit assignments and on regulatory advisory engagements. The Assistant Manager role involves supporting the planning of engagements and organising the delivery of the work and sometime directly leading more complex assignments. You'll play an important role in developing and maintaining deep client relationships and development members of the BDO team. You'll have the opportunity to further develop specialist sub sector, technical and regulatory knowledge and will also have opportunities to work with and support the wider Financial Services Advisory team and its clients. This role will focus on the asset/wealth management sector. You'll also;

  • Managing internal audit internal control and regulatory assignments for Financial Services clients, including planning, organisation of resources and review
  • Managing and delivering internal audit reviews and regulatory assurance reviews within the Financial Services sector and making value-add recommendations to senior management
  • Supporting Senior Management to develop and deliver the annual internal audit plan
  • Leading relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  • Representing BDO at client meetings and attending senior management and committee meetings

  • Managing internal audit internal control and regulatory assignments for Financial Services clients, including planning, organisation of resources and review
  • Managing and delivering internal audit reviews and regulatory assurance reviews within the Financial Services sector and making value-add recommendations to senior management
  • Supporting Senior Management to develop and deliver the annual internal audit plan
  • Leading relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  • Representing BDO at client meetings and attending senior management and committee meetings
  • Managing a team and supporting the development of team members
  • Involvement in key activities, which may include recruitment, budgeting, resource allocation, quality assurance etc.
  • Developing guidance and running training on key business and regulatory matters relating to asset/wealth management
  • Being aware of possible business opportunities for the team
  • Assisting with realising the Internal Audit opportunities through marketing, recruitment and training, and development of methodologies
  • Assisting in the development of our internal audit service offerings and the training of staff
  • Delivering assignments in the required timeframe as agreed with the client
  • Maximising utilisation by working effectively and efficiently and ensuring the team is working efficiently too
  • Ensuring projects are well managed and commercially viable by budgeting effectively and billing clients promptly
  • Being alive to possible business opportunities for the team and bring to the attention of the Senior Manager and relevant Partner
  • Attending networking events and conferences to ensure knowledge and skills remain up-to-date and to promote BDO’s services where appropriate

Required Skills and Experience

To be a successful in this role you will need will have the following skills and experience:

  • Recognised accountancy or internal audit professional qualifications and/or memberships i.e. ICAEW, CIMA, CIIA, ACCA etc or relevant industry qualification.
  • Internal audit or regulatory assurance experience working within or with asset/wealth management for at least 1 year of that
  • Have undertaken a range of internal audit or advisory assignments and understand internal audit methodology and techniques
  • Functional knowledge of the UK regulatory environment with deeper knowledge of asset/wealth management and the risks that they face
  • Understanding of risk management and internal control
  • Experience of managing people and teams effectively
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Sound technical knowledge of financial products and / or customer-facing regulated activities
  • Strong written / communication skills, ability to influence, lead, engage, and manage stakeholders
  • Ability to lead complex reviews and be a team player

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Have undertaken advisory assignments
  • Have an understanding of data analytics
  • Good technical knowledge of financial products
