To achieve this ambitious development, we're looking for a Cost accountant to support our newly created Commercial Manufacturing Organization (CMO) in Swindon, UK. This key role reporting to the Senior Finance Manager will be part of the PSG segment of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

A day in the Life:

  • Collaborate with the Operations Finance team to analyse cost data to identify efficiency opportunities to improve the total cost of product manufactured in Swindon, UK manufacturing site.
  • Analyse and maintain cost accounting and inventory systems including product costing, inventory control, variance analysis and calculation of excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Develop Revenue & Costs forecasts accuracy of new business unit
  • Complete regular tasks relating to the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close process, including reconciliations.
  • Cost modelling for business cases; including new product development, Make vs Buy analysis and capital appropriations.
  • Support technical accounting issues related to the month end and quarter end financial close and understand the accounting impact of proposed transactions regarding different functions and ensure GAAP is maintained.
  • Support the Global Annual Cost Roll by working directly with Value Stream managers to review new standards and their impacts on margin, inventory revaluation and Capitalised Variance netting, along with updating labour and Overhead rates.
  • Maintain data integrity globally for SAP costing; this includes cost re-rolls, data maintenance and working closely with IT and Finance to understand and effectively communicate impact.
  • Support Swindon site team from a cost accounting perspective to help quantify savings for potential projects/initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multiple functions and efficiently connect with different levels of employees in the company and demonstrate judgement, tact, and subtlety when taking care of internal and external customers.
  • Participate in operational improvements in data reporting and extracts of data and reconcile between source SAP systems GL and transactional data to consolidated reporting in (HFM) Hyperion.
  • Support SOX and External auditors by providing clear supporting explanations and documents


Keys to Success:

Education

  • CIMA qualified/part qualified is a plus


Experience

  • SAP extensive knowledge and experience is a must
  • Considerable, dynamic accounting or finance experience
  • Experience in a Manufacturing environment
