Our partner is a global charitable foundation with programmes spanning across different areas including education, health & nutrition, empowering agricultural communities and establishing sustainable livelihoods.

The UK office is responsible for raising funds from institutional donors and governments across Europe, and works with partner organisations around the world to identify, apply for and manage these grants. This role has been newly created to support the organisation manage a range of complex projects including their humanitarian repsonse in Afghanistan and COVID-19 response globally. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting in designing and strengthening financial systems, procedures and controls on grant management and compliance, regularly reviewing and updating these; and training staff as required
  • Monitoring programmatic activity and spend, and maintaining the grants management tracker tool.
  • Preparing financial information for internal reporting, and assisting in the preparation of the programmes finance elements on statutory financial statements
  • Overseeing the financial administration of programmes grants. This includes reviewing concept notes and proposals, preparing donor and other grant agreements, setting up grant codes, preparing donor reports and carrying out grants visits.
  • Supporting on budget proposal development and refinement for new grant proposals; and ensuring that donor and the foundation rules on accounting, procurement and project implementation are adhered to.
  • Supporting in reviewing and approving due diligence assessments on potential partners, and carrying out monitoring visits and audits of projects.
  • Support in preparing for grants and the statutory audit.

Person Specification

  • Qualified accountant with at least three years of relevant experience in financial accounting, strengthening and maintaining controls and procedures, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Excellent numeracy & financial analysis skills
  • Intermediate/advanced knowledge of MSOffice, especially MSExcel
  • Experience of working with institutional grants, such as the FCDO (DfID), EU & ECHO, even as a grants auditor is strongly desired.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both in a written and oral capacity.
  • Strong business partnering skills., including demonstrable ability to build strong working relationships with field staff overseas
  • Problem solver, able to work effectively in a complex environment.
  • Strong interest in international development.

At present, the role is home-based. Once restrictions lift, the organisation offers hybrid working with the individual being office-based 2-3 days/week in London. This role will also have overseas travel; it is envisioned that there are likely to be 2-3 trip a year lasting 7-10 days. The organisation is keen on seeing applications from individuals from practice looking to transition into the international development sector. This role is only open to those with the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship.
