NEXT has an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to lead key finance operations as a Payment and Operations Financial Controller!

At Next, not only are we one of the UK’s largest fashion retailers, but we’re also one of the largest listed companies. Selling our own NEXT brand as well as hundreds of world-famous brands, in the UK and worldwide. What’s more, we’re growing. Fast. And it’s the kind of growth and investment that is exciting for everyone in our business.

Not least our Finance Operations department. We’re the ones who keep the business going, and the cash flowing. Taking pride in our strong financial processes as we manage over £4bn of sales and payments a year, across 500+ retail stores and circa 8 million active Online customers. But that’s just the day to day. With so much growth going on, we get stuck into projects and supporting new business initiatives. Helping to expand overseas and bring in even more third-party brands. This is one for those who aren’t afraid of big digits, who have an eye for anomalies, and who want to use their skills to succeed through rapid change, challenge and scale.

About the Role: -

  • You’ll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations for the NEXT business including supplier relations, cash and stock management as well as providing expert advice and managing business risk and compliance in these areas.
  • In addition you will be responsible for the associated business projects and external relationships and will be a key interface to the wider business at all levels.
  • You’ll need to be a qualified accountant with strong control skills as you’ll be managing and overseeing the financial accounting, reporting, associated costs, revenues, processes and financial controls in the area as well as providing decision support, analysis and performance metrics.
  • A big part of the role will require strong organization and leadership skills as you will be responsible for managing large operational teams and developing individuals to deliver the highest standards of service required in the business as well as driving efficiency, change and innovation.
  • You’ll have lots of opportunity to demonstrate your exceptional interpersonal skills as you’ll be working with a broad spectrum of people internally and also be managing strategic 3rd party relationships and contracts.

What we are looking for:

  • An experienced finance leader and business partner with a relevant finance qualification and extensive experience within a similar role ideally with knowledge of multichannel retail business processes.
  • You’ll have proven experience of successfully leading, motivating and developing large teams and have a strong bias for action, including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects and work at pace to deliver results.
  • In addition to being a strong leader you’ll also have a good commercial aptitude, be highly numerate with superior attention to detail. You‘ll also need to think strategically and have proven analytical and problem solving abilities and decision making skills.
  • As a key driver of change you’ll provide support for business initiatives and make things happen and be able to demonstrate an ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • You’ll possess strong control skills including detailed knowledge of internal controls and business and operational risks and have a sound understanding of systems processes.
  • Superior interpersonal and presentation skills are also required and you will be confident in leading discussions and negotiating and influencing across all levels of the business and externally.
