The UVRS department is a growth department within Northern Trust Global Fund Services Practice. The UVRS group provides daily valuation of Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, and other large Institutional clients in addition to annual financial reporting to clients and their auditors. UVRS provides exceptional operational support and consultation to both external and internal parties including clients, 3rd party recordkeepers, client servicing teams, and investment operations and performance teams.

Summary of Role:

The Accounting Specialist role is to provide impactful solutions to our clients while working alongside several internal and external partners. The individual should have knowledge of financial reporting principal such as FASB, GASB and 5500’s Reporting as well knowledge of core accounting application used for daily valued NAVs. The individual will implement creative solutions working with Clients, Business Process Teams, Sales Teams, and Client Service team to better define the product and meet the client’s needs. In addition, the individual will provide thought leadership and support to the accounting teams, current client and prospective clients relating to plan structures, annual reporting and/or industry changes.

The key responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Champion business objectives which includes implementing new processes working alongside business and practice leads on change programs and modernization initiatives.
  • Able to understand and implement changes on the accounting platform to help ensure the valuations are in line with financial reporting requirements.
  •  Including understanding complex asset types and security set-ups rules and provide guidelines to the accounting teams.
  • Assist other Accounting Consultants and Accounting Teams on complex plan restructures by providing collaborative and innovative solutions.
  • Liaison with Business and Operational teams to improve efficiency, effectiveness and productivity while still controlling risk on new applications.
  • Able to understand other product changes or system enhancement on the custody platforms and ensure the changes are implemented effectively to the accounting valuation to ensure department has no impact on timelines and accuracy of our deliverables.
  • Support Business Development and Sales team by understanding client expectation and ensure their needs are meet working alongside the accounting teams. In addition, analyze current client concerns and implement innovative solutions to improve client satisfaction.
  • Ability to clearly document, define, and present new procedures in relation to strategic role out or change in daily valuations processes or reporting changes.
  • Qualifications:
  • 8 or more years of experience with Institutional Fund Accounting, Mutual Fund Valuation and/or Investment Operations with deep understanding of financial technology platforms and workflows.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills, required to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive internal and external relationships with clients, 3rd party entities, client servicing, and operations teams.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced daily environment while continuing to push strategic initiatives forward.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 application, Global Invest One Accounting Application, and other reconciliation applications to help support the Daily NAV cycle and Annual reporting needs.
  • Remains current on new developments in Financial Services capabilities, reporting and industry trends surrounding Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit plans.
