Division Description

The Finance & Accounting Division is made up of a number of core finance teams both at business unit and Group level. We perform a key management and control function in ensuring all Group financial and management reporting processes are appropriately governed. The Finance Division has overall responsibility for driving the Group budgeting and forecasting process, developing Group-focused financial insight and analysis and delivering the Group's statutory, regulatory and external reporting. We do this through collaborative business partnering in each of the Divisions and with centralised Finance shared / specialist services.

Description of business unit

Retail Ireland serves consumer and business customers across a broad range of segments and sectors with financial products, services and propositions tailored to meet their needs through branch, phone and digital banking channels.

The Retail Ireland Financial Control team is responsible for the controlling and reporting on the Retail Ireland Division's financial position and performance. The outputs of the team are included in externally published information e.g. annual accounts, and for inclusion in financial information to internal stakeholders.

Financial Control work closely with stakeholders across the Group and third parties to ensure that there is a continued focus on delivering a culture of service excellence, developing our people and supporting the achievement of the Group's strategic priorities. Financial Control takes lead responsibility in ensuring that the control environment around accounting processes is robust and that reporting delivery is timely and to high standards of accuracy.

Purpose of the Role

This Divisional Financial Controller role leads a team of Finance professionals in the delivery of the Retail Ireland monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual financial reporting close processes, ensuring delivery is on time and to a best-in-class quality.

Key Accountabilities

  • Overall responsibility for the Retail Ireland Division's Primary Statements, and the Statutory and FinRep close processes, ensuring that underlying processes review and controls have been completed in accordance with best practice.
  • Lead a team of Finance professionals, ensuring appropriate learning and development. Proactively foster talent and build team competencies.
  • Manage all risks in the end-to-end team processes, ensure risks are identified, understood, and actions taken to mitigate.
  • Forge strong relationships with key stakeholders in Retail Ireland Banking, and the wider Finance Division, ensuring a best-in-class service delivery.
  • Overall responsibility for the statutory accounts of entities with the Retail Ireland Banking Division (including BOIMB u.c.), focussing on rationalisation and simplification.
  • Support and play an active role in Group Financial Control and Finance Division strategic initiatives and business projects.
  • Working collaboratively with the Group Finance team, identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to deliver process efficiencies and improvements.
  • Lead by example, building an exemplary team culture, founded on accountability, agility, one Group one team, and a strong customer focus.

This job can be done anywhere in the ROI with the primary office location as Dublin to which travel will be required for in person collaboration. Exact frequency to be agreed with manager.

Essential Qualifications

Qualified accountant with seven years PQE.

  • Previous experience of leading a large team in a Financial Control, or other control-based function.
  • Technical accounting acumen, with the ability to apply expertise in a timely manner.
  • Exemplary stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to engage and influence colleagues at all levels.
  • Experience in creating a culture of accountability, agility and collaboration
  • Must possess the ability to influence and promote collaboration to deliver business and Finance objectives. High energy, bias for action, drive for results, strong resilience and focus on execution excellence
