ISQM 1 strengthens firms’ systems of quality management through a robust, proactive and effective approach to quality management. The standard encourages firms to design a system of quality management that is tailored to the nature and circumstances of the firm and engagements it performs. RSM is seeking to ensure compliance by the implementation deadline through the development of a robust and carefully considered quality control plan.

National Audit Technical Services (NATS) is responsible for maintaining the technical quality of the audit firm's operational procedures and guidance. It does this by producing the Audit Manual, maintaining the firm’s computerised audit software, as well as monitoring the technical quality of technical training courses and assisting in the provision of such courses on an ad hoc basis.

Technical content for marketing material is also produced and reviewed. NATS also provides technical support to partners and staff in the form of advice and opinions in response to queries, as well as providing engagement quality control reviews, 2nd opinion and efficiency reviews. NATS is also responsible for producing the firm’s responses to exposure drafts, consultation documents and discussion papers from the FRC, contributing to global responses submitted to the IAASB, IASB and EFRAG, and internal technical communications which advertise changes to published standards, legislation and internal guidance.

About the job

Working alongside the business in the development of an ISQM1 design and implementation plan for the UK firm. Following this, the role will involve the development of a monitoring approach for the ISQM1 framework to facilitate timely review and reporting. Collaboration with the international network will be required to ensure consistency of methodology and alignment of views. Alongside the ISQM1 role, the successful candidate would be expected to provide technical support to the audit business.

It would require you to communicate with a wide range of individuals within NATS, the audit quality team, the audit business and other departments such as Accounting and Financial Reporting, Learning & Development, Valuations and Risk & Advisory Services and Ethics Team.

Other aspects of your role may include, amongst other things:

  • carrying out second opinion/engagement quality control reviews;
  • carrying out efficiency reviews;
  • assisting RIs on engagement quality control reviews of listed clients;
  • drafting and reviewing internal technical communications;
  • reviewing internal / external model accounts;
  • updating key internal documents for changes to accounting standards;
  • developing responses to consultation documents and discussion papers;
  • leading internal projects
  • being proactive when changes occur by considering the impact on the firm and proposing actions and solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

About the ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience of ISQM1 implementation.
  • Experience in providing audit technical support services.
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex issues in a concise and understandable manner.
  • Strong people management skills and confidence in providing feedback and challenging in a constructive and professional way.
  • Confidence and a proven track record in project management alongside the adaptability to deal with changes to timelines and plans.
  • A strong understanding of proportionality and the ability to make sound decisions about the significance of issues.
  • A challenging and sceptical mindset coupled high a high attention to detail.

The role is based in our London office and would be flexible to either a full time or part time working arrangement.

Requirements

  • Previous experience of developing ISQM1 implementation plans;
  • Auditing and financial reporting knowledge and skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
