Description of Business Unit

Group Tax is responsible for strategic oversight of the Group's tax affairs through management of and ensuring compliance with the Group Tax Policy. Group Tax provides tax advisory support to all business units of the group in all markets in which the group operates and is also the primary inter-face with tax authorities in each jurisdiction.

Purpose of the role

The person in this role will be a key member of the compliance & reporting team which is responsible for corporate tax compliance and year end reporting for all companies within the Bank of Ireland Group.

Key Accountabilities

  • Contributing to a high performing team that is rising to the challenge of a changing financial environment
  • Assisting with the preparation of tax provisions as part of both the year end and half year end process for subsidiaries and the Group
  • Preparing tax computations for a range of Irish and UK subsidiaries, filing relevant tax returns and dealing with any Revenue queries
  • Assisting in tax compliance reviews across different tax heads in businesses units throughout the Bank of Ireland Group
  • Providing support on ad hoc projects in both Group Tax and the wider finance community
  • Working with colleagues across the Group, ensuring effective collaboration, communication and development of solutions
  • Replying to ad hoc queries from the business on all areas of taxation, which includes researching the relevant topics and preparing the appropriate advice.
  • Assist in Group Implementation of Finance Act changes.

The person in this role has the opportunity to work on Group wide initiatives and projects as well as gaining valuable experience in tax reporting and compliance processes. The role holder will also have direct interaction with customer facing colleagues in reviewing lending proposals from a tax policy perspective.

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant with 4 to 6 years' experience

Essential Skills & Experience

  • A good understanding of the interaction between Accounting Standards and Tax.
  • Strong analytical ability with associated commercial acumen
  • Flexible approach to work in addition to willingness to take on work as required.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Ability to identify and successfully implement innovative and sustainable value-creating tax opportunities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and manage key internal and external stakeholders and relationships without a line management designation.
