Your Business:

This role sits in the Financial Services division and provides finance business partnering support to Technology & Operations which delivers the Group’s information technology and banking operations functions.

This role has 3 main areas of responsibility:

  • Providing guardrail sign-off and objective recommendations on strategic business cases
  • Supporting major Change programs from concept to execution, ensuring an efficient allocation of the Group’s resources
  • Subject matter expertise for Business Case development, Business Case Financial Modelling, and Benefits Management in Planview

Your Team:

  • Within Financial Services, the role is part of Tech & Ops Finance, a team of 90+ finance professionals striving to achieve its mission to “Drive strategic outcomes through transparent insights and passionate people”.
  • Tech & Ops Finance is responsible for the provision of financial control and financial management services to the Technology & Operations division which has a cost base of over AUD $3.5 billion and is regarded as the preeminent technology leader in the domestic financial services market.
  • We work closely with our stakeholders across the Group including Tech & Ops, Business Divisions, and Group Finance to help them understand their technology and operations costs and deliver current and future strategic and financial plans.

Your Role:

  • CommBank is widely regarded as the leader in technology amongst its peers. This role will assist in facilitating investment decisions by the business while ensuring appropriate risk management controls are in place by identifying potential risk areas and assisting the business in growing profitably and safely.
  • Your team is responsible for the sign off of Business Cases for the Tech & Ops Portfolios. The outputs from your work will be discussed with the Tech & Ops CFO and the Technology & Operations Executive Portfolio Governance forum.
  • You will be required to work closely with Group Finance, the Tech PMO and the Technology & Operations business to help guide and support them to drive the right outcomes for the Group.
  • To support outstanding customer service, the role will manage a wide range of stakeholders at once.
  • You will report to the Executive Manager, Technology & Operations Finance – Forecasting & Investment Support
  • You will lead a team of two Finance Managers.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Partnering with the Tech & Ops Business in the development of robust business cases that reflect the expected financial and operational outcomes of any given project/initiative
  • Assess investment and operational opportunities through the provision of financial advice, modelling and insight
  • Provide insightful analysis in the Group project portfolio prioritisation process
  • Provide general financial management and analysis to the Tech & Ops Business, Tech & Ops Finance GMs, Tech & Ops CFO & Group Finance. The successful applicant will be required to provide high level analysis around project financials, offering insights and improvement solutions to the business
  • Provide subject matter expertise for the Group Development Framework (GDF), Business Case development, Business Case Financial Modelling, and Benefits Management in Planview
  • Helping the business optimise performance and achieve performance targets, including active support for and involvement in continuous improvement and productivity initiatives
  • Identifying and escalating issues and ensuring appropriate risk management and financial control practices are in place
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct - which sets the standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people.

Your Skills:

  • This role requires strong financial skills along with high levels of commercial acumen
  • The ability to guide, advise and influence senior stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills
  • Strong eye for detail with the ability to distil key messages and deliver insights
  • Risk Mindset –All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.
  • Accounting/finance management related degree
  • CA/CPA/CFA/CIMA qualified
  • Significant experience in project finance / project accounting
